Default Google Voice App for Blackberry and Prefix caller ID

Please Login to Remove!

All right, I went to the end of the internet and came back and could not find a solution for this issue, So I am making a stop here and lay it out, maybe someone may be able to help me out.

I have google voice, love it, cool, anyway, what I am trying to acomplish is having a way to add a prefix or anything to a google voice caller ID, for instance when someone calls my GV number which is forwarded to my BB cell, I get to see the caller ID , but is the same when someone calls me directly to my cell anyway, so I do not have a way to identify when someone is calling me directly or calling my GV.

One work around is having the GV # display its own caller ID when someone calls, I would know that someone is calling my GV but there is not way for me to tell what number (contact) is calling me. I can turn the announcement feature on, where people say their name, but I do not like that.

So is there a way to add a prefix, lets say when some one call my GV instead of shown 555-333-xxxx, so it will show 0555-333-xxxx?, this way I know is coming from my GV.

I thought that installing the Mobile App will bring that functionality , but it actually lacks of it.

Please if you have any ideas, shoot them at me to see if I can make better use of my GV.

THanks you all.

There is no such feature yet.
The two options that you mentioned (display real number/display GV number) are the only two possibilities, and you're right that it's annoying.

You could turn on Call Presentation. Eventually, all your contacts should be switched over and you could then turn it off.

Or get a new number from your carrier and don't give it out.

This is the only built-in solution, I believe. But it isn't perfect, because you'd have to answer the phone in order to tell if it was a regular call or a GV call (you'd hear, "to accept, press 1").

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

Well if you had the caller ID option set to show GV number instead of the actual number of the person who's calling you that would tell you if its a regular or GV call.

My Google voice number gets a lot of calls to whoever had it before. So I've just stopped answering calls that I don't recognize.

It'd be nice if they could send something else, but it is a forwarded call, so what could they send? If they added some digits to code it, the phone caller id wouldnt work.

Monkeypaw, I believe GV now has the option for you to chnage your number. There is a $10 one time fee though.

Thanks, that's a cool option if it were really bad. Luckily it's not. Wonder if they'd let me just look at a whole lot of ads instead of paying $10.

Default Thank you all

Thank you all for your input, but it looks like we are still stuck with the current options we have until someone come up with a solution, I believe eventually it will be out there since this is a feauture that GrandCentral had before, and I tested toktume.com and they have the feature too, but that one is not free.
I guess that we get what we pay for, and we do not when we do not pay :(

Thanks you all.

Yeah I would be patient. GV is a free service and I think it's just great that they offer such a service with all those features for free. It took awhile for the transition from GC to GV, but I think it was worth it as the feature set was greatly improved. It'll be a constant work in progress.
