Default 8310 charging No-wall, No-USB, Yes-Car - 09-18-2009, 10:21 PM

New to blackberry, I know nothing about them. bought my first one yesterday. The wall charger does not work, the data cable does not work, but the car charger charges the phone just fine. After I charged it in the car (60% for the 1.5 hours I had it plugged in), I installed the desktop software on my laptop but the curve will not connect. I searched the forums about charging issues and I noticed a few things.

1. My charge indicator does not come on at all except with the car charger.
2. I see all 5 pins inside the connector on the side of the phone.

Could there be different blackberry chargers for different models? Like various voltage, etc? Is there an on/off setting somewhere that controls the activity from the charging port?? I've tried 3 different chargers, one from my old motorola, the one that came with the blackberry, and a different blackberry wall charger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

All mini usb are the same... Moto razr, google G1, or blackberry, same charger/voltage,etc

As for your compy issue, restart, and try using all your ports... If it doesn't work, there is more than likely a bad cable... Where did you buy your phone from?

I actually got the phone "slightly used" from my work. I just find it wierd that 3 different cables don't work and 1 does work.

Not all USB cables are the same. I happen to come across one of those USB (the part that goes to the PC) to Mini USB (the jack that goes to the device) that had only 2 of the 4 wires in it. It was good only for data transfer, but not for charging.

I have an adapter with a detachable cable, so had I used the above cable I could have never charged with it.

So, after coming to the realization that my blackberry is a piece of crap, I decided to dig into the mini usb port with a safety pin and see if I could "force" the pins to make contact. If that didn't work, I'd get another used phone from my work. After about 23.5 seconds of pushing on each of the 5 pins, all of my chargers work now. The pins weren't sticking down far enough to make contact with the pads on the charger tip. All is well in the universe again.

Angry 5 pins in USB port? - 11-07-2009, 10:37 AM

I have this same issue with the USB port no longer working in my BB Curve 8320 which is a major issue for me since that also means I can no longer use the desktop application or sync between PC and phone, or download applications and transfer to the PH from my desktop application.

I got a magnifying glass and looked inside the port to see if I could try the "safety pin" method of fiddling with the pins and I only see THREE pins, not five. There are five slots but only the middle three have pins in them. Could I have received a defective one from the get-go?

Three pins on the device? You might want to take it back to Tmo.
