Default Latest OS: 8330 4.5.0.295/4.5.0.175 (Multilanguage) (ESN devices) - 10-19-2009, 10:02 AM

This will load on ANY carrier's 8330 by following the instructions below.
This is only for the 8330 model
(ESN based models)

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8330 smartphone

Package Version: 4.5.0.295
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.175
* Software Platform: 3.4.0.55
* File name: 8330AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel295_PL3.4.0.55_A4.5.0.175_Spr int_L.P.exe
* File size: 83.17MB

Download the OS file here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

How to determine if you have an ESN or MEID based device.
From the main menu, select Options, then select Status.
ESN devices - On the Status screen you will see ESN on the display
MEID devices – On the Status screen you will see MEID on the display.
NOTE – You cannot install ESN-based software on a MEID device, nor can you install MEID-based software on an ESN device. They are NOT interchangeable.

Thanks! I downgraded from the 5.0 beta leak. I will upgrade to this version.

So, the last time I connected my 8830 to sync, DM offered to update the OS. It installed what shows as v5.0.0.230. It has done nothing but lose some of my apps and befoul others but there is a spiffy analog clockface on the display when it's plugged in and charging.

So, I want to downgrade to the above mentioned 4.5.0.295/4.5.0.175 but I'm puzzled by instruction number 1 above. If I run the .exe is not installing the OS upgrade? Is running the loader.exe actually installing it?

I tried this on Friday and it nuked my curve. I had to resinstall from scratch. I would like to try again and but don't feel like going through the hassle again. Anyone else have a problem?

first off, do a backup BEFORE doing anything else. so you have your contacts and messages and what not. I ALWAYS USE JLCOMMANDER for a complete wipeout before installing. i never do the upgrades as most times i have problems.

i have also noticed then when you download the file. it does a install method on the pc. before it allows you to install to phone. so if you had 5.0 installed. then you want to go back to 4.5, persay, 5.0 gets reinstalled. to avoid this problem. you go into your control panel. add/remove programes. and remove the 5.0 installation. reboot the computer then open up the appropriate file you want to install. delete the vendor file , plug in the phone and click the apploader file and you will be golden.

Had this loaded for the last few days now unmodified other than deleting the vendor.xml file so I could load it on my Verizon 8330.

Haven't (knock on wood) had any squeaking/chirping yet on calls but the last long one I was on was over my Bluetooth headset so I'm not ready to call that one dead quite yet. Battery life appears normal and speed is OK. Memory usage is about the same as it was before. So far this doesn't appear to have the call answer delay that was present in several older versions.

Upgraded yesterday, no modifications. Chirp was only apparent today on a 20+ minute call. Otherwise not an issue. Don't see much else of a change. Also upgraded BB Messenger to v5. Different, but I like it.

Default Help! can't install new os version 4.0.5.175 - 10-20-2009, 10:56 PM

I have a Sprint BB Curve 8330 OS Version 4.0.5.131 and received a notification from my carrier Sprint saying that a new os version 4.0.5.175 was now available. I went to Desktop Manager 5.0 version, and it automatically had the newest version available for installation...

A window "TASKS in progress , 2 of 11 " appeared,
1. connect to device... this was completed
2. back up device data, ... this was completed
but,,, as soon as it got to number 3
3. which is "back up 3rd party application"... it IMMEDIATELY stopped right here and got an error message that stated : "a fatal error has occurred while updating your devices' software. please try again"...

GRRRR I tried this again 4 times, but kept getting the same error message always at # 3 task.

what could be wrong???? Please help!

Try following the steps as they're listed in the first post.

How is it that we put a man on the moon so many years ago, but RIM can't get rid of a chirp sound on a PHONE!
