Default Privacy / Telemarketers - how to stop them? help please - 11-05-2009, 07:41 PM

I have had no problem with telemarketers until recently when I got this new phone (8310) and new OS 4.5. My plan and provider are the same. Not sure what happened, but does anyone know of any way to make my phone number private from any blackberry 3rd party marketing companies? I downloaded OS 4.5 shortly after getting the phone, so maybe there was some option there and I allowed my ph. # to be given to third parties without paying much attention - OR it could be the free trial of VR+ voice recording software I put on my blackberry? Anyone have any ideas? I just want all these calls to stop!

I already went to AT&T's website and opted out of any marketing via phone, text, email. I also already am registered with the national do not call registry.

To reiterate, I think these telemarketers got my phone # from something I did with my blackberry software/settings but I do not know what exactly happened.0 Thanks for any help!

You can go back and report them. Or have fun with it and act like you enjoy their calls a little too much.

Or just do what Jerry Seinfeld does:

Jerry: This isn't a good time.

Telemarketer: When would be a good time to call back, sir?

Jerry: I have an idea. Why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you back later?

Telemarketer: Umm, we're not allowed to do that.

Jerry: Oh I guess because you don't want strangers calling you at home?

Telemarketer: Umm, no.

Jerry: Well now you know how I feel. [Hangs up phone]

Won't help you at all but this is why I use Google Voice and my GV number. A telemarketer call gets marked as spam and I never hear from that telemarketer after that.

Or if you have a young child around, hand the phone to them. Telemarketers will usually get exasperated talking non-sensically to a toddler.

If I don't recognize the number or it is a toll free or out of the area, it goes to voice mail. 99% don't leave a messaage
