I have just purchased a Curve 8330, which accesses emails from Webmail (Zimbra). I manage my webmail through Outlook Express 6.
I have noticed that it seems like the Bberry and Outlook are unable to sync mail. I can sync the address book without a problem, but not the mail.
So, if I delete an email form my Bberry (Mailbox and Server) it deletes from Webmail as well, but stays in my Outlook; if I open an email on my Bberry, it shows open on Webmail, but not on Outlook.
Conversely, if I open something on Webmail, it does not show open on Bberry OR Outlook, and if I delete something on Webmail, it stays on my Bberry.
If I try anything on Outlook, nothing happens on Bberry or Webmail.
Can anyone tell me how to make sure that - when I erase/open something in Bberry or Outlook, the other device reflects the change?

No you cannot sync mail.

The way its working, is the way its supposed to work.
Blackberry (BIS) can reflect changes on the server, but not in an email client such as Outlook Express.

There's nothing you can do.
Its working as its supposed to do.

Ok... that's disappointing. Why do I keep reading about people who have problems (and solved them) with synching Outlook with their Bberry, then?

They mean Outlook (not express) for calendar and contacts

And Notes and Tasks.

E-Mail is never synced; even with BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) it is reconciled - but never synced.

Thank you. Is there a way to reconcile with Outlook Express or Outlook WITHOUT BES? It's a pain to have to reconcile manually each time!

If you pay for a BES plan, you wont get a BES.
A BES is a server, expensive and usually used by companies.

If Zimbra really offers a BES connector and an Outlook connector you might want to consider doing some research into them. I didn't dig much into it since it wasn't relevant to me but it seems like there's some potential there.
