A friend gave me his 8310 which he somehow bricked. When I start it up, it says JVM Error 513. I searched the forums and I saw the posts about JL_Cmdr and BBSAK. I understand that I have to wipe the device and install a new OS.

The problem is I can't get the PC (XP) to detect the connected blackberry. If I plug it in to the USB with the battery in, I get the JVM Error 513 and the laptop tells me that I have a Power Surge on the Hub Port. I tried to disable USB 2.0 which got rid of the Power Surge message, but it still cannot find the device.

I also tried it with no battery. I also tried someone's suggestion about putting in the battery briefly, plugging in the USB, and then removing the battery. That did not work either.

Either way, I can't get the 8310 to be detected so I can run the utilities.
