Trying to re-activate son's older 8310 by placing my simms card in it and I am getting 'Insert simms Card' what gives? Thanks in advance! ReBell

I have to ask... Are you sure you are inserting the SIM card in the correct orientation?

You might also try wiping the contacts with a dust free cloth, or even clean off oxidation with a pencil eraser.

Pull the SIM card out and re-insert it. make sure that you are placing it in correctly. A common error is putting it in facing the wrong way.

to over simplify - when i remove the battery, there a sim 'frame/btacket' directly beneath with a metallic slide cover that locks the sim in place. Toward the center of the phone, this 'frame/bracket' has a clipped corner similar to the sim card itself. I assume the card has to be inserted in this 'matching' orientation - correct?

Also, toward the top end of the battery compartment, there appears yet another, smaller sim card mount bracket with metallic slide cover similar to the larger bracket. There isn't a chip in it, but what is this bracket for? Thanks for your priompt response! ReBell

That other bracket is for a microSD card.

From your description, it sounds like you are sliding the bracket so it snaps into place and locks the SIM in place. And you said it's the SIM from your phone, so the SIM is not bad/broken, right?

my BB 8700c and placed into the 8310. However, I should tell you that I noticed the sim card has a 'banana' curve to it. It does work in my 8700 though.

I don't have any other ideas. Except possibly the deformation wasn't a problem in the other blackberry because of the different receptacle, but doesn't make good contact in the new blackberry.

I also tried the sim card out of my wife's 8700 - it looks brand new. Same results. The dern think looks fine - strong signal, locked onto AT&T, automatically adjusted for date and time. I did a 'clean wipe' the message disappeared until I went dial a number and then reappear. Read out say 'emergency calls only'. ReBell

So, hold on .... With the wife's sim card, you do not get the sim card error message? It's a different issue now?
I can never keep this straight in my mind, but I believe you are seeing SOS because the blackberry is getting a signal on another network but not on your network. I think. That could be because reception is weak for your network where you are at. Can you move, even if just going outdoors, to get better signal, see if that's the issue?

You can also get the SOS with a SIM card that is from another carrier in a non-unlocked phone.
Could the 8310 possibly be from the Cingular days and maybe the ATT card wont work in that phone?
I remember when ATT was ATT Wireless (before Cingular), if the phones werent unlocked only the old ATT Wireless SIM cards would work in the phones.
