Question Escreen (GPS Unlock?)

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone familiar with the available options for escreen? I was browsing through and saw a few features that I wish were not hidden in there - like kill process. Why is the BB's so called Task Manager hidden in such a place? I think it would be helpful to have a feature like that available under Options perhaps instead of a million battery pulls, etc. I was wondering (and I'm probably way off on this) if the GPS function could be unlocked within the escreen to work with 3rd party apps on the 8330. I believe it's locked via the code in the OS but wasn't sure if anyone had enough insight regarding what GPS options are available via the escreen.

It's my understanding that Verizon unlocked GPS for the 8330 like this time last year, I think it was December.

Yours should work as long as you are (if I recall correctly) on a high enough 4.5 OS release.

Dunno. Never needed it myself (in over 5 years).

FWIW, my OS (4.5.138) may not be "high enough" and the GPS is unlocked only for BB Maps.

Yep...I have 4.5.0.138 too but wanted to use it with Google Maps and the Garmin software. I didn't think there was any OS available to unlock the GPS with the exception of the BB Maps app for the 8330. It does on other units like the Tour and Storm I believe.

Just as a footnote:

Once you're in the Escreen and you go to Radio Engineering Screens - GPS - Restrictive Type, there is a Menu Option called "Disable All Restrictions". Didn't want to jump forward and just try it but was curious if anyone else had info on it first.

Theres really not much you can do in the escreen without having a RIM vendor ID (1). Thats where the fun begins! Like overclocking and other fun settings

Yeah, I know. But I want to only stick with the Verizon "approved" versions.
