Hi.

One of our users handed me his 8310 last night, complaining about the egg timer constantly coming up on the screen. I checked using the desktop manager if there were any upgrades etc available for his device but there are none.

Apparently there are some pictures of a new born on the unit so we are trying to avoid the wipe and rebuild approach.

Any ideas??

Check the amount of free space on it. Sounds like they filled it up with pictures.

Options / Status will show you the free space. Less than 12mb will result in problems.

Couldn't get inot any of the settings cos of the hourglass.....went with the nuclear option of wiping it with the JL_cmdr thingy

Wiping it with JL_Cmder is a bit extreme in my opinion. A battery pull would have cleared up some memory. Probably enough to move the pics off of the device and free up some memory. But it's a little too late for that now. The user should be using a MicroSD card to store pictures.

I did the battery pull 1st thing this morning, to do a full cold re-boot, but there was still no joy. Wouldn't allow me go into any of the menu's either.

I'd agree with you that the JL_Cmdr option was a bit extreme, but the user is heading away for a few days on business and needed the unit working.

Most of the pics were on a 1Gb card anyway, there was only about 8 on the device memorty

Check for movies, ringtones, all media. Unused applications and languages. Something is taking up the memory.
