When I save a new (or a changed) contact on my 8310, it generally takes between 60 and 90 seconds - and the BB stalls during this time. Is this normal? If not, what can be done about it? I am not on a BES.

Try a hard reset (pull the battery for about 30 seconds). And while you are at it, look at free memory (options > status) before and after.
