Default How to make my internet work with out a BB plan???

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BlackBerry 8320 Curve that I purchased from a friend. The phone was locked to T-Mobile I paid a company for an unlock code and unlocked it for use on AT&T. I do not currently have a BB plan with AT&T I only have a regular unlimited data plan. I would like to know how I can make my regular plan work on the blackberry. I tried changing the APN settings to the same one I am using for my unlocked iPhone but it didn't go the same way. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

You'll need a 3rd party browser like Opera Mini or Bolt.

Hello, Im buying the wifi enabled at&t curve 8320 from a friend. My friend upgraded to a new phone and when he used the 8320 with the 30$ blackberry data plan. The phone has not been used/powered up since he upgraded to his new phone. Right now im using the 15$ unlimited data plan from at&t. When i take my sim card and insert it into the blackberry and power it on what settings do i need to change? I know about the TCP/APN settings for at&t that i need to change but is there other setting that needs to be changed? thanks.

AT&T will automatically add a BlackBerry data plan to your account for BlackBerry devices activated after September 2009.

I don't have the BB data plan, just the standard data plan and I can do all of the things you can do on a BB data plan. I use BBM with people I met here and friends from school. I use the standard BlackBerry browser. Although I can't use every BB app, I can use a few. Kind of weird and makes me wonder WTF?

Did you buy a used BB? It might have the service books installed. However, if you ever wipe the device, do an OS upgrade, or have a major problem that requires reloading the OS, you might lose that capability.

Also, since you are on AT&T, they may have already found your device and added a $30 BB data plan to your account and pushed the service books. Maybe you should check your account status.

I know of no way around using the RIM based services without a BB data plan.

They can do that?

They should ask you first.

I hope they didn't.

I noticed I got a text at 12am the next day after I got the blackberry, and it told me my account was updated, thought it was just because I got a new phone, didn't think about because it was adding money to my bill.

Gar, I call them tomorrow, if that is $30 per phone, our phone bill gonna be $90 more than normal, or perhaps its a plan wide ordeal. IDK

Kinda worries me a little...

No only can they, they do. I brought back an older BB, just making sure it worked, and it took them 26 hours to find it and add the plan. Ask? The device requires a data plan according to the TOS so they add it. AFAIK, the only way to remove it is to remove the BB.

Same thing happens with other smartphones that require data plans.

Many carriers re doing that these days, not just AT&T.

Do they add that $30 for each blackberry? Cause we got 3 phones on the plan, and each phone was upgraded to a BlackBerry. If that happens, then holy s**t I will be mad. They should send the message and say "reply yes to upgrade contract"

Each BB requires a BB data plan. If the IMEI was detected, then you very well could have a big bill. They will send you an SMS saying the service was updated to add a data plan. I forget the exact message, however.

Been advertised here and other places for quite some time now.

Wirelessly posted (L'neuf trois)

Yup should be for every BlackBerry. As Dubdub mentioned, its a stated requirement in their TOS.
