Okay, so about a month ago I received a used Tmobile Curve 8320 which was sais to be working at that time. When I got it I put my Tmobile Sim Card in and strange things started happening. First, I just got SOS as far as service goes. Then I wiped the device and put my Sim back in. What I got was anywhere from 1 to 5 service bars but it never said "T-Mobile" on my home screen to let me know I was connected to my network. The next thing I tried was using the UMA WiFi calling service that Tmobile has available. So, I got on the 8320 and configured it to my wireless network at my house. I was able to get on the browser and surf the web via WiFi without any problems. So then I tried making a UMA call (btw my curve was actually showing uma not UMA if that makes any difference). At this point I was able to make a couple of calls and send a text message. My screen was also showing "T-Mobile - Bud Light" (Bud Light is my home network lol) and showing 1 to 5 service bars as well as a GSM and uma indicator. However, this only worked once. Every time I try again it will connect to my Wifi network and sometimes even to T-Mobile and show service bars but every time I try to make a call it says "Call Failed" and text messages will not send.

Basically, I can use the phone as long as I'm using uma but for some reason I can't get the mobile network to work.

I am all out of ideas and I'm about ready to throw the phone away and move on. If anyone has any ideas please don't hesitate to post them.

Have you double checked your settings? Go to:
Manage connections>Mobile network options>Connection preference

What do you have it set at?

I have it set to mobile network preferred

Hmm weird...under the same menu, what are your settings for Data Services, Mobile Network, and Network Selection Mode?

Data Services: On
Mobile Network: AT&T (has been T-Mobile at other times)
Network Selection Mode: Automatic

Hmmm even when it shows AT&T are you able to make or receive calls? I know sometimes in areas where Tmobile's reception is poor they borrow AT&T's tower.

Ya, that's what I was assuming since they're both GSM. But no, I've never been able to make a call that was not over my uma connection.

also, i was just out at the T-Mobile store and the guy gave me a new Sim Card and it's still having the same problems. So I know my Sim Card is fine.

Ok I was going to ask you to try your sim card in a different phone to rule out the possibility of a SIM card issue.

Not reliable enough I guess... I just don't understand what's wrong with it. Oh well, I guess it could be anything. Thanks for your help though!

Same deal with my phone but it's an 8310 so no wifi. It has signal from both carriers but won't communicate. No calls and no SMS. Tried 4 sim cards now.

It just started this abruptly. Phone was in a safe place when it started. I'm on ATT though.

When you said "wiped the device" do you mean the OS or just the data? Sounds like just the data. If so, what OS is it running? I would wipe the OS and install a new one anyway to rule out some issue with that.

Seems weird that it would keep trying AT&T unless you just don't have a good Tmobile signal in your area. Mine will show SOS and AT&T as the provider if I don't have a Tmobile signal. If you do have a good Tmobile signal, then maybe it's hardware. Maybe AT&T is running on 850mhz in your area and the 1900 mhz antennae isn't working, or the other way around.

You are correct I just wiped the data. Is there a tutorial on here that would explain how to re-install the OS?

The mini USB port is not working though so if I need to connect to my computer that's kind of a deal breaker.

Any way to view what bands a BB is using? I know my old motorolas would show.

Check out the sticky at the beginning of this part of the forum. There's instructions on how to install and upgrade your OS.

But yes you'll need to plug your phone to the computer via the usb port. The port is soet of an important thing (mass stoarge mode, synching) so it sounds like you might be better off with a new device.
