Default BB 8330 and v. 5.0 OS

I can't find a recent answer to this. I got a Sprint 8330 for my wife today. I got home and upgraded to the latest v. 4.5 through my desktop software. But isn't version 5.0 the latest? That's what I have on my 8530. Doesn't it work on the 8330?

It does. I have it on my Boost Mobile BlackBerry. Check the top of this forum's page and you'll see the download link. Just be sure to delete the VENDOR.XML file since it's from Boost and not Sprint.

I saw that sticky in this 8300 forum. But I wasn't sure it was "official." If I install that, will there be trouble? I have an ESN BB (w/Sprint).

Oh, another question: My BB is linked with a Mac. Will that file work with the Mac desktop software? And if it doesn't, is there a way to download in directly into the phone?

Thanks!

You will need to use Parallels or Bootcamp to establish a windows instance on your Mac or find a friend with a PC who wll let you install the OS.

As said above, look at the yellow sticky at the top of the 8300 section. You can install any OS as long as it is for your specific model (i.e. can't put an 8310 OS on an 8330). Follow our instructions exactly - deleting the vendor.xml file. And be patient.

There is a thread here (possibly the one with the latest 5.0 OS) about some issues people have reported with putting 5.0 on the 8330.

I'd recommend reading up on all that and then making your decision to upgrade.

There are definately pros and cons. For the way I use my BB and the programs I currently use, the 5.0 is great. Love the threaded SMS. But the memory leaked is horrendous. I have to "reboot" a couple of times a day. Not a good thing, but I can live with it.
