| Enable USB Mass storage mode for media card..Doesnt work Please Login to Remove! Hi,
To install a particular dictionary software i was asked t enable mass storage mode in my BB for the media card. I already had it on from day 1. But just for keeps i disabled it and reenabled that feature. But it never shows up as a removeable data device or whatever on my pc. It never has even from the beginning. How do i do this ?

That was a "real" answer. You can't assume too much here and it pays to ask about the simple stuff first.
Does the computer recognize the blackberry when you connect it? Can you sync, backup, and so forth?

| I dont know what an IT policy is. But im guessing its something to do with a corporate account or BIS or BES ?? No i dont have any such thing. LOL i just cant imagine id be asked about licencing and does the phone have policies and stuff. Arent these phones supposed to work universally in the same way. All this BIS , BES and such services are supposed to be extra services that a customer can use if he wants to. Why torture a normal user who bought this in the normal way without any BIS or whatever BS it is.
I just bought this as an unlocked phone. Ive been able to sync and do the application loading etc. But i read on some vendors sites that it is supposed to show up in my computer as a removeable device or drive like an SD card shows up etc.

If you acquired the device second hand, it could have an IT policy on it. It doesn't have to be something you have done.
Open options > status and type buyr. Look at the bottom line. What does it read?
Also, maybe someone has already pointed out, blackberrys are different. Yes, people use blackberrys without data plans, but that is not the ideal use the manufacturer and service provider intends. The blackberry is the hardware appliance for using RIM's data services. If you feel tortured, then you are using the wrong device.
Regardless, you should be able to use the device's mass storage mode feature. We just need to firgure out what needs to be corrected. If you cooperate by answering questions intead of throwing out faulty conclusions and complaining, maybe we'll figure it out.

. . . If the computer recognizes the device and you can sync, backup, and install applications, then connecting to the blackberry doesn't seem to be your problem.
The IT policy question needs to be ruled out.
Another thing, just to rule this out, too: Do a battery pull. With the power on, remove the battery for 30-60 seconds. Then try again.
Also, can you access the card with the blackberry with no trouble, such as downloading ringtones to the card and playing back?

| Aiharkness > No. Its brand new. From Ebay with a 1 year dealer warranty (repairs only). Also i think i can indentify a used piece a mile away since im very particular about even the smallest of hairline scratches and know where to look. It was a brand new piece. The first unit came with an azerty keyboard and i promptly got an replacement with the qwerty keyboard.
Other than that i dont know how to check for the IT policy. Its wierd that brand new phone thats been hard reset should ever maintain any records of even a test usage setting parameter. However this is all i can expect from this device. Its not the same as other devices and its not for everyone , im saying it before someone gives me that line.
Ive tried the battery pull a few times before i even posted here. Anytime i do a battery pull i always wait for at least 3 mins or so before putting it back in.
Im however able to access the card as equalt to via a removable device, but instead through the media manager. Only thing is im unable to do it via the desktop as its supposed to show up as a removable device.

Look, you can't rule out the IT policy until you check. If you bought it from an ebay vendor, who the hell knows what you've bought. Check! I told you how above. Or, you can open options > security > general security options (if I remember correctly) and scroll down near the bottom of the screen. Look at what is entered under Services. What do you read there?
On the last part of your post, are you saying when you enable mass storage mode and connect to the computer, that your media player sees the microSD card? If that's true, it sounds to me like the issue is with the computer somehow and not the blackberry. I don't have a clue what it could be. But if the media player see's it but windows explorer or whatever won't see it, then the blackberry is not the problem.

| Just to make sure your settings are correct: When you go to Options>Media Card, you should see:
Mass Storage Mode Support: Yes
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Prompt (or Yes)

Problem is with PC. You've confirmed yourself that other applications can see the media card.
I really don't know what to do, for sure. I guess if it were me I'd try uninstalling the usb port in windows control panel. Can't rememeber exactly where and how, butr I hope you know what I mean. Remove the USB, do a cold reboot, and let windows add it back, then try again. That's all I know to try short of reinstalling windows. Hopefully someone else has more ideas. But your problem here isn't the blackberry.

| I guess it's time to try plugging the BB into another computer to see if it will be recognized there.
Do you have access to another PC?

I've seen reports of weird stuff on one computer, then Bingo! It works on another computer. That's my bet at this point. Especially if the Windows is old and has been patched out the ying yang.
