Default Direct connect speaker off

New BlackBerry Curve 8350i Nextel, I can't figure out how during a direct connect conversation I can go "private" or no speaker. My old Nextel phone, when someone walked up, I just hit a button and continue without someone hearing the other caller. Is there a quick way to do this?

Thanks,

Keith
