Default id my new carrier not want to deal with my phone from old carr

I have a Blackberry Curve 8330..Has this happened 2 anyone else?? While my phone was rebooting a call came through & some one answered the call. When my reboot finished I had a blank screen & 'Error/reset'. So I tried that over & over with no result. I had to take it into my carrier. -My phone 'was' an Altell Blkbry. -My carrier now is Verizon (took over Alltel company/contracts). Instead of fixing my phone 'they' replaced it with another but it's now Blkbry Verizon. I'm slowly getting my s:*t together.
