Default 0 calendar entries?? How do I fix this

Please Login to Remove!

A few months ago I lost all of my calendar entries and now I want to prevent my wife from doing the same.

I recently helped my wife backup her BB Curve 8300. She is using Desktop Manager 4.2.2.12

After completing the backup, I clicked "Advanced" and looked at the data, and it showed no calendar entries. After we unhooked it from the computer, I opened her calendar, verified that there were indeed calendar entries, then looked at the "options" menu within the calendar and at the bottom it said: "Number of entries: 0"

How do I fix this?

I know, someone will say, "you should upgrade to the newer desktop manager." Well, that would require teaching her how to use new/different software. Second, when I do that, it still won't save any calendar entries, and if I update the device software, it will save all data, wipe the device, install the update, then restore the data. Unfortunately, it will save zero calendar entries. (That is what happened to me).

Any ideas?

Ok. Backup and let's review.

Does the blackberry have just one calendar, or multiple calendars?

The backup has been completed.

There is only one calendar (as far as I know) on the BB.

No I meant back to the beginning and let's start over.....

How are you determining that there is only one calendar? If you see entries in the calendar itself, and then open calendar options, and then select the calendar you were looking at, then you will see the total number of entries in the last row ont he calendar properties screen.

If you see 0 on the calendar properties screen, then either you are looking at the properties of another calendar, or the calendar is boogered.

So it is important to know if you have multiple calendars.

If you have one calendar, and it is corrupted, then the thing to do is clear all the calendar databases on the handset using desktop manager, and then re-sync.

Okay, so I did that, and it shows 0 on the calendar entries properties screen. How do I verify if there is more than one calendar? There is only 1 calendar icon. The calendar properties shows only one calendar icon, and then if I go to Settings-OPtions-Advanced Options-Applications, it shows only one calendar app. I am pretty sure there is only one calendar installed- if there are 2, I have no idea how to access the second calendar.

If you are on BIS, you will have one calendar per email address. When you open the calendar (click on the calendar app icon), then open options in the calendar menu, you will see you calendars. You may or may not also see a "desktop" calendar or some other calendars depending on what else your are doing.

You will either have identified one of these calendars as the default in options > advanced options > default services; or else left the setting as is, which could be the first email address you set up in BIS, or maybe something else.

So, if you open the calendar, select options, and see just one calendar, then you have just one calendar, at least as far as the device is concerned. And if there are entries in that calendar, but the calendar properties screen says 0 entries, then I think the calendar data base is corrupted, and the solution is to clearn the calendar data base and re-sync, as I posted above.
