Just wanted to know?

Without knowing and without having seen the 8300, my gut response would be that it will NOT support HTML email. One of the prime directives for RIM is security, and HTLM email is inherently insecure, and may never be supported without a third party add in.

Currently there are not any devices that have been released by RIM that support HTML emails. As JerryD indicated this is probably due to the insecurity surrounding HTML emails as the BB devices are very secure.

Not to start anything here, but the standard answer of "security risk" just doesn't fly anymore when it comes to standard features. When the Pearl came out, many were asking why the device did not support BT A2DP. What was the answer by those in the know? Security risk.

Now look at the Curve coming out; it supports A2DP. Has the security risk been dissolved somehow? No, it's called feature evolution. BlackBerry devices simply do not support HTML email. But I have a feeling that it's coming down the road, maybe sooner than later.

I don't know. It seems to me that RIM is committed to adding features to upcoming devices that everyone around this forum wants to call security risks. Maybe the simple answer should be "No, not supported right now."

I tend to agree with you.
Looking at things from a BES admin standpoint... things that RIM feels are a potential security risk can typically be controlled through BES IT policies.
If/when RIM allows HTML e-mail on devices, I'm quite certain you'll also see a revision to BES which allows HTML mail to be disabled and/or controlled via IT policy.
No one thought you'd ever see a camera on a BlackBerry. As soon as you did, you then saw an IT policy which can disable it when the device is connected to a BES. I predict similar changes when HTML messaging arrives.

I actually like the text only mail. It's easy to read and I don't have fight through the graphics to find the bottom line of the message. I hope that when RIM does allow HTML mail, if, we can revert back to text only.

It's on the roadmap for a future release of BES server, but my recollections from WES are somewhat hazy as to whether that was 4.1.4, 4.1.5, or 5.0

I believe I saw a BlackBerry FAQ for the 8300 and that was answered there. Plainly, no and they aren't planning on it. According to what I read they said it's because it adds too much volume to email transmissions and it is a significant security risk.

This is probably what we're really waiting for.

There are definitely very real security concerns with HTML mail support whatever your personal opinion on the matter may be...

As a BIS user the security concerns probably aren't such a big deal to you. However just because you can't see or understand why there might be an issue doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. BES devices not only have access to sensitive corporate data via email but they also have access to a company's intranet if allowed. Since there aren't BIS-only and BES-only devices RIM really does have to seriously consider security before rolling out changes.

Again, what isn't a security issue for you can easily be a major concern in a corporate environment. RIM's certainly not going to risk its corporate user base just because Joe Consumer is all antsy for this or that feature.

I like my HTML-free Blackberry heaven. Let's keep it that way.
HTML in emails mostly serves to annoy.

HTML e-mails will be available in BES 4.1.5 and hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to tell you how well it works

You'll also require 4.3 handheld os, or at least that's what we've been informed. The Empower add on is nice for now, but definitely looking forward to the new service pack.

it would be great if HTML email text content can be delivered, with an option to turn on or off the display of embedded or linked graphics . . . similar to Gmail . . .

So, its not just me. All of the links for images and such have to come with the e-mail? Is there no way to turn that off and only recieve the text in the e-mail message? My e-mails come in full of junk and links and I had recently wondered if there was a way to get rid of that stuff.
