| BlackBerry User Tools CD Please Login to Remove! Hello,
I received a BlackBerry Curve (8300) yesterday and it came with a BlackBerry User Tools CD. However, when I install the User Tools CD in my Dell Latitude D610 laptop running Windows XP a screen appears that says "Initializing" (together with a blue left to right scrolling bar)
The screen never disappears and the CD does not load any further. Any ideas on how to make the CD load and work properly?
Some applications of note that are running on my laptop:
- Cisco Security Agent V4.5-1
Thanks,
Ben | | Offline

| Just a suggestion (I haven't loaded this CD) but have you tried installing without the auto-install program? Just right click on the CD drive and click Explore. Then, look for a setup.exe or something like that and run it. | | Offline

| I checked the contents of the CD-ROM and it only appears to have a "start.exe" application that you can load. This then brings up the same screen as the AutoPlay option. | | Offline

| Here is the solution Got it to work. Go to the following section on the CD:
D:\files\exec\bbinstaller
Click on the "Setup" icon and you'll be good to go. | | Offline

| I had the same issue on launch day guys... wouldn't run on my PC... but, loaded just fine or my Mac...
2 fixes...
1- I loaded it on my Mac and dloaded the pdf file (8300 User's Guide) and emailed it to myself on my PC.
2- just dload the Desktop Mgr software from Blackberry.com for the Curve... it will be the newest version anyway!!!
Everything has been working just fine for me since... Best! | | Offline

| I am having no success at installing the User Tools CD. First I get Error 2738 "Could not access VBScript run time for custom action". After taking advice from the forums, I entered a command "regscr32 vbscript.dll" to which I got "vbscript.dll loaded but call to dll register server failed with error code 0x80004005.
I've tried loading right from the disk, right from the web site, tried to find workarounds, all to no avail. Now when I try to load from the disk, it just stalls.
I should mention that I'm using a Toshiba laptop running Vista. I have an AT&T Blackberry Curve 8310.
OK, any suggestions, hints, thoughts? All would be welcome at this point. I dread going to the official channels!
I have also posted on the AT&T boards.
Thanks for any and all help,

Not sure where to go next. Is there a phone number for either AT&T and/or Blackberry Customer/Technical Support that I can call. Hopefully someone there can give me an answer.
I've posted on both AT&T and Blackberry forums so someone there, like you, might come up with something else to try.
I appreciate all the help you and everyone else can give me.
Many thanks,

| Shelly, have you tried installing the Desktop Manager WITH administrator rights, from an Administrator account? I know I have read a few users that must do that on Vista.
Otherwise, yes, just call your ATT wireless support line, and ask for BlackBerry device support. | | Offline

| Running as an Administrator doesn't work either. I guess I'm off to the telephone world and dealing with the Techies at Customer Support.
Thanks for all the input.

| OK, I must come back and stand corrected. And to all who have had or will have this problem, the answer IS to run the file as an Administrator exactly as JSanders explained earlier in this forum.
I believe I "thought" I ran it as an Administrator but it seems there is a right way and a wrong way. My way was the wrong way as pointed out by Rod, the VERY patient Tech at Blackberry, Research In Motion Technical Support.
It seems you have to RIGHT click more often than I thought. So, for all to benefit from my hours of research..
To remove "Error 2738 Could not access VBScript run time for custom action",
Click on Windows Start button,
RIGHT click on Command Prompt,
RIGHT click on Run as Administrator,
Click Continue on the "Windows Needs Your Permission to Continue" Screen,
Now you should have a black DOS screen showing the following prompt:
C:\Windows\system 32>
Type the following: regsvr32 vbscript.dll
then hit return
You should now get a message that vbscript.dll is loaded
You might need to install your Desktop software as Administrator also but doing the above will solve the 2738 problem.
Hope this helps.

| Hmmm,
I could have sworn I just posted a message but I don't see it. If this is a duplicate please forgive me!
Well, I have the solution after several more hours of research and time on the phone with a VERY patient Tech named Rod at Blackberry RIM Customer Service.
JSanders, you had the answer I just didn't Right Click often enough I guess! Anyhow, here is the long and short of it for those who still have a problem or might have one in the future.
This is a solution for "Error Code 2738 Could not access VBScript run time for custom action."
Click on Windows "Start",
Right click on Command Prompt,
Right click on Run as Administrator,
Click Continue in the Windows Needs Your Permission to Continue box (Vista)
You will see the following:
c:/Windows/system32>
Type the following: regsvr32 vbscript.dll
hit the return key
You should be good to go
When running the application, run it using the right click run as Administrator option also.
I hope this helps and thanks again to all who helped earlier.
