Default Curve restarting while on a call

Please Login to Remove!

OK I finally got the Curve and I have a big problem - it is rebooting whenever I am on a phone call that last past a couple of minutes, it seems. I tried looking at the log file (alt-LGLG) but nothing funky seems to be in there.

I wiped the device and removed all 3rd party programs and am still able to repeat the problem.

Has anyone seen this? I am running a BES corporate email and have 4 POP accounts through BIS coming to the phone.

One thought - I previously had a Pearl on the BES. Is it possible that my BES activation is restoring stuff that is not compatible with the curve? If this is the case what is the best way to handle this?

Thanks a lot!

Mine restarted itself a total of two times, once the first day and once the second day. I am now on day 4, and it has not done it anymore. It restarted itself while on the phone with the same person both times. I am on BIS and have two third party applications (jive talk, berry411). Do you guys think its software or hardware?

I'm running unlocked on t-mobile BIS. I have the latest version of jivetalk and 411 installed... fresh from their websites (not upgraded/transfered through the desktop software) - no resets here but I've probably only used it a total of 25 call minutes. I've had the phone since Thursday afternoon.

are you guys using the Backup/Restore function of the desktop manager to transfer databases from a previous blackberry? reason why i am asking is because i experienced an issue which was causing resetting. when i first got the 8300, i opened the voice dial application while going through things in the menu so it did the initial address book scan. later that day, i did the backup/restore of data including my address book from my 8800 to the 8300. following this, the device would restart every single time the voice dial program waited for a command. i intentionally did it 4 times in a row just to make sure it wasnt some one time problem. the way i fixed it was by changing the voice dialing language to spanish, having it rescan the address book due to the language change, and then go back to english and have it do the rescan again. it has worked flawlessly since. so the 8300 did not recognize the changes before trying to initialize the voice dial.

reason why i mention that bug is if the phone did not recognize that change, it may have not recognized something else that is causing the reset during your calls.

sorry if this does not have any relevance, but just offering my 2 cents...

When I got my first 8800 unit, it did the restarting thing plenty of times. And I was not doing anything out of the ordinary, or even running any third party apps. It would just shut down and restart out of nowhere! I have not seen this on the Curve yet, had one since Friday, swapped it out for a new one this morning because of some issues, but none were related to the device restarting. New one hasn't done it either! I'd go back and return it for a new one if it keeps happening.

Mine restarts alot when I hold down the "1" to go into voicemail, sometimes when I go into pictures, and alot when I try and record a voice note. Looks like I will be exchanging mine, but I am a little afraid to do that.....might get a unit with other issues.....I can handle the resetting once in a while.

I am searching for a store that has a replacement Curve in stock. It's tough.

The reason I completely wiped the handheld (including 3rd party applications) was to see if it would cease restarting. It didn't. My Pearl would occasionally restart but never while on a call. It was usually some bad software that required an update for the trackball-series (8800, 8100, 8300) devices.

So far, I have about 3.5 hours of talk time (Conference Calls) on my Curve and have not had a restart yet *Knocks on Wood*.

I am using against BES v4.2.1 and it restored everything from my Pearl.

Only 3rd Party App is Google Maps.

Hope this helps,
Greg

I've put in another 2 hours of talk time this morning on conference calls... no restarts for me still (unlocked on t-mo network). So it only seems to be some units...

The only thing i restored from a backup was my blackberry messenger(so it would transfer the contacts)...that doesn't replace the actual application does it? Everything else i did a sync from outlook. My two apps (jive and 411) are both fresh installs from OTA also, not from desktop manager.

TIA

ps-under phone info, my total calls says 8:49:50

Default Exchanged for another and working fine so far

I was able to find a store that had some in stock and they promptly exchanged it for me. They classed my defective Curve as "DOA." I was able to make it reset on any outgoing call!

In any event, I had my BES admin completely delete my BES account and recreate. I restored my SMS, MMS & Messages database from my Pearl but made sure my Enterprise Activation completed first. It is working flawlessly so far...

Default Me Too

I have the same problem with restarting. What pain in my rear. I called "The New ATT" and they are directing me to the store for an exchange. Hope I can find one. If not they say I should go through Warranty Exchange which is BS because I know they send out refurbs sometimes.

I've returned so many phones in the past, some pointers!
Let the rep do the transaction, then move to a quite part of the store, open it yourself and pop your sim card and battery in. Let it re boot, I check for scratches,
loose moving parts, etc all while it starts up! Once it's up and running, of course make a call, then set up your email by switching handheld numbers with email setup. Then I usually check to see if the internet is up and running, only takes about 5 min before you can get on the web and see the 2 globes on your main screen. if it seems unresponsive and the trackball is not moving around as quick, go to setup wizard and pick your language, and the rest will be deleted. This clears some space and speeds the phone up, after let the phone restart! You should be fine after it starts back up, any problems give it back, that simple! Good money, equals a good product, don't except anything less!

Hunh. Mine just restarted during a call. Made about 10 calls today and only did it this one time. I'm on the first battery cycle at this point.
I'll keep an eye out for repeats. I ordered it online. If I need to exchange, can I do it instore?
Just trying to plan ahead.

At least your 8300's will connect to a cellular network! I got a free device from our rep and it won't connect to their network. It reads the phone number and the SIM ID from the card but never connects. It'll sit at searching for network... then eventually go to "No Service". I've replaced the sim on my line and tried multiple active sims and nothing. Put the same sim cards in other devices and all is good.

I am going to try reinstalling the handheld software tomorrow even though Cingular agreed to replace it.

Kinda disappointing...

Smile 8300 Restart Follow Up

I was able to take mine back to the store no problem. I called ahead to make sure they had one. They gave me a brand new one and I haven't had the problem since...knock on wood...I hope I didn't just jinx myself.
