Default 8300 & Telenav Maps

Please Login to Remove!

I got my 8300 yesterday but haven't gotten to start using it yet because my office IT guy is on vacation and I still need to be getting messages through my 7100g.

But in just playing with my new Curve (which is awesome BTW) I can't find the Maps. Where is it? Is it something that has to be loaded on? I thought it was a preloaded application.

Thanks.

Are you referring to TeleNav maps or TeleNav GPS Navigator? The maps icon on mine was just a browser link to somewhere. If you want the GPS navigator, check here:

If I recall correctly, the application folder has a link which then downloads TeleNav to your curve. Once this is done, the TeleNav app is installed for use (obviously GPS isn't there w/out a separate puck). The maps seem to be pretty good, but it loads maps rather slowly. I've never used it on any other handheld, so I don't know if this is unusual. My suspicion is that the slowness is more due to the bandwidth limitations of EDGE than of the Curve.

Blackberry Maps wasn't pre-installed. I downloaded it from the BB website where there is a warning it is not available for the AT&T network. I'm not sure what that means (maybe no GPS functionality w/ BBmaps?). Anyway, it downloaded and installed fine.
