Default BlackBerry Maps 1.2.20 and BB Curve

Please Login to Remove!

I received my Curve today but I don't see the BlackBerry Maps icon anywhere. If I go into applications I see it listed there: BlackBerry Maps 1.2.20 but it's not on my home screen anywhere. I thought maybe it's hidden so I tried the show all function and it's not there either. Can someone tell me how I can get the maps icon to show up on my device please? Thanks.

Do you like BB Maps better than TeleNav?

I am brand new to the BB world and I am deciding on TeleNav, BB Maps, Google Maps or MapQuest

If you have an AT&T Curve, it's written into the code of the LBS.alx to be hidden. You'll have to modify that file and remove vendor ID 102.

Default bbmaps

I installed the new ATT OS 4.2.2.89 and it removed the bbmaps app (even though it showed that it was there in teh apps menu). Based on observations of this forum, I then downgraded to the O2 OS 4.2.2.67 that is also available here and the bbmaps icon is now in the apps folder... I'm still waiting for my unlock code so I can send service books and see if the rest of the icons will be there...

Thanks for the info

The Curve I have is from at&t so I'll have to attempt modifying the LBS.alx file then. Do I just delete the AT&T (102) section in the line of code that reads:

<!-- For non-8800 series, show the icon for all carriers except... (then it goes on to list vendor ID's) or do I have to delete the vendor 102 from somewhere else?

Cool a new version. Does it have the features that I have listed on my site that have never shown up in BBMaps before.

My LBS.alx file is located in C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/Shared/Loader Files/8300-v4.2.2.89_P2.4.0.39

I am just trying to figure out if I just delete the AT&T (102) section in the line of code that reads:

<!-- For non-8800 series, show the icon for all carriers except... (then it goes on to list vendor ID's) or if I have to delete the vendor 102 from somewhere else?

In the GPS Sticky is the LBS.alx for the 8800 so you might be able to see how that was edited.

I modified the LBS.alx file and have BlackBerry Maps working now. I'll play around with it tomorrow and see if there is anything new in this version compared to the older version.

Is this better than TeleNav or GoogleMaps? Can you let me know how to install the BB Maps?

TeleNav is not free. it's $9.95/month. You might have a free trial period, however. Also, I believe it is worthless without GPS. It won't do anything for you. If you don't have GPS then I recommend BBMaps or Google Maps.

Correction. I should have said that for the maps application only (maps/driving directions) that is a free DL. If you want to use GPS, then you must use a external GPS puck and pay for the $9.95 service per month.

Could you share what you did to modify it?

A step by step if you will?

Thanks

i have nothing related to 8300 in the file. Only my three 8700 versions I had dl'd. Do i need to DL something first? A step by step would be great as I loved this program on my 8700
