Wirelessly posted (Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.7196/1690; en; U; ssr))

Rogers has no UMA/GAN implemented and I don't see them doing it in the near future. Although it hasn't been confirmed, I can't see any potential future wifi BlackBerry not using UMA/GAN as push would be useless without it.

Any dates regarding a release of such a device is just speculation and I would highly doubt you'd see it in the next 2 months.

Personally, I'd get the 8300.

Why does wifi have to imply VOIP or email push. I would love to be able to use the BB as a mobile browser around the house through my wifi.

No one said VOIP, but it would make sense to incorporate it.
Since the BlackBerry uses MDS for all data pulled through the browser, you wouldn't be able to continue this functionality without connecting through your carrier's network. Push mail also happens to be the core function of a BlackBerry. It's not going to be removed to allow for wifi browsing.

Rest assured, you will pay for WiFi if/when it comes to BlackBerry

1) It doesn't, in fact it has nothing to do with push mail.

2) You and I both, I use WiFi everyday, everywhere. At home, at my business, and at Starbucks when meeting with clients. As well as most of the hotels I stay at and airports I pass through. But I must get out my laptop to use it. So it's great to know that it's coming on the next gen BB.

Here is a link as we are just starting to see published reports. According to my RIM Corp Rep the Wifi "Dual Mode" BB will be here just as soon as they can get it done and out. The target date now is within the 3rd quarter of this year, which of course is subject to change. But it IS going to be here. While this article is from an Asian site, rest assured it applies to the U.S. as well.
