Angry Curve - Unable to Answer call/screen freeze/hourglass of death

Please Login to Remove!

Out of nowhere, after using the phone for 2 days, when I clicked answer the screen froze and I got the spinning hourglass of death. Left it alone for a while, it stopped, then tried to do something else and it did it again.

Battery in and out and now it's fine.

Happen to anyone else?

Also all my SMS messages are gone, any ideas?

Mine froze once already, happens every once in a while!
To avoid doing the battery pull you can also do a reset by pressing some buttons!
alt-caps-del
Press all three at the same time, sometimes you have to do it twice in a row, and then you'll see the hour glass. Let it spin and reset and you should be good to go!

Losing text messages and call logs, read here: http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Main_Page

Click to 8100 Specific FAQs and then to "Why is my 8100 losing its call logs?"

Good luck.

My first curve did exactly that. The second has been flawless so far (had the replacement since Sunday 6/3)

A friend of mine picked one up Tuesday and it was freezing right out the box. He went and exchanged it with another one it's been smooth sailing ever since. Like Mia said take it back!

I know you have tried 3, have all of them done this at least once too?

I did have loads of programs open (just figured out how to close them) so we'll see if it was an isolated issue.

Keeping too many programs open can decrease memory and that could casue the problem. If it happened again I would replace the unit. I have had no such problems with my 8300 so it is not normal

Probably not an Isolated issue, has happened to more then a hand full of new Curve owners over the last week, including myself! But sometimes the unit just gets overburdened with stuff running, plus some units have had to kind of warm up and get a reset or two and then end up being fine. I'd say use it today, and if it happens again pack it up and bring it back.
Most stores get shipments in today anyway (Friday). Just ask politely if it's possible to get a unit from the most recent shipment. Unit's made in Mexico seen to be solid so far in peoples reviews. Good Luck!

Mine was the first box to arrive at my local store and it says "Made in Mexico".

Were some made in Canada?

Yea, the early units that I had returned we're made in Canada! Coincidentally the one I have now was made in Mexico, and seems to have no problems what so ever!

There is no such thing as the hour glass of death. Not on BlackBerrys.

So let's not "invent" something out of pure imagination, thereby misleading new users.

The Blue Screen of death only appears on PC's.

You simply experienced a rare moment, which did not result in any corruption like one experiences on a PC.

Lol,archer6 you do have a point! The Hour Glass of Death is a lil extreme to describe a reset on the Curve! Almost sounds like the Blackberry of Doom! Couldn't be further from the truth, I'm really enjoying my Curve! It's pretty normal for there to be some issues with the first shipment or two of a new Device, RIM did well!
After a week, I'll go on record as saying this is the most comfortable device that I've ever owned! Hope you guys are enjoying it as well!

Oops, sorry sean!

I mistakenly posted my response on your post when it was meant for lauralatham, as you can see by my correction.

I'm with you and your post is a good one. It is true that the first new model of any device can be a bit buggy. Plus that aside I try to remind myself that these are mass produced in a very large quantity and like any other product there's bound to be a few that are bad or defective, and that's why we get a warranty. If mass produced products could be perfect, there would be no need for warranties or service departments.

Enjoy your Curve and thanks for your courtesy and humor!

Cheers....
