Default Is your email open on your desktop at work?

I know that if my Lotus Notes is open at the time I try to activate my blackberry that it sends the activation/code info in a very strange looking email to my lotus notes and then it won't activate the blackberry.

Not sure if this is an issue with Outlook as well, but might want to make sure your desktop email program is not running when you hit "activate" on the blackberry or throughout the activation process.

just a thought.

Did you make sure that you have the right data plan. I know on AT&T typically the BES data plan is $44.99/mo

I had the same problem and it turned out to be my reception. I drove to a much stronger signal area and it activated fine. Try that. I live in a fringe area where my signal strengh is generally between -90 and -95. Our helpdesk said you need at least low 80s to activate.

(edit). I just read where you said it sort of works now but not synching. That can be the case if you have both BIS and BES email accounts set up. There are othere threads on that in the forum, search for them.

I've found that once the BES admin sets a new activation password I find a spot with good signal type in the email and password and then set it down until it's done. Don't mess with it while it's activating. Come back 20-30 minutes later and it's usually done.

You can also connect it to your work computer if you have Desktop Manager loaded and configured properly for your email. Then it will activate directly via the cable. My last upgrade went this way. It activated completely over the cable before I even got back to turn the wireless radio on.
