Default Curve Battery Life

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all,

New to both this forum and BlackBerry with the Curve I just received yesterday. Just wondering, for other people running a Curve on AT&T, what sort of battery life you're experiencing? I haven't been calling/emailing much over the past 24 hours, but about half the battery drained off. I was under the impression that one of BBs strengths was a long battery life (of course, I know if you talk 4 hours or so you'll drain the whole battery in under a day, but I haven't done that...). Wondering if this is just a function of the EDGE service going in-and-out in my office tower or if, under normal use NOT up in a high rise, the battery still drains fairly quickly. This 14 day standby rating seems like a load of crap...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

yeah I got my curve this week and I'm constantly charging it everywhere I go. I haven't been doing much either but it looks like the battery isn't going to last me a whole 24 hrs

This sounds about normal. With standard battery you usually will need to charge it every day. Seidio will be coming out with an extended battery in the coming weeks. I use it on my Pearl. I still charge every night but I can go 2-3 days easily.

Most new Blackberry batteries also get better with age and charges, when new they get a lot less life than after a week or two, my Curve got barely a day at first now after a week it is getting two easily and that is with 100-150 emails a day and at least an hour a day on the phone.

I just realized that, for the first time in the week I have had my Curve...I didn't charge the battery last night. I'm now closing in on a solid 48-hours and am still at almost 50%. It's true...the battery does get better with some charges under it's belt.

I am looking forward to Seidio's extended unit though...since I am basically lazy.

I am by no means a heavy BB user, but with some moderate camera use, email use (about 5-15), about 45 min of phone calls, some web browsing and BT activity each day I have gotten 2 solid days from the phone and am still at around 45%. I would rate that as pretty fair, and for me is all I really need.

I recieved my Blackberry Curve on Monday, charged it full and haven't charged it since then (today is Saturday) and only 1 battery life bar was removed. I think it varies from phone to phone (or battery to battery). I've only used it to make a couple calls, mess with the camera and set everything up.

Overall, I'm not complaining about the battery life. But then again, this is my first Blackberry, so I'm not sure what more to expect from it like those of you who've had 1 for quite some time now.

I'm running a 8800 and 8300 side-by-side now. The 8800 easily gets me 4-5 hours of talk time or 4 hours of talk and heavy data/EDGE, GPS and video use.

The 8300/Curve, OTOH, gets me about 3 hours of talk time or 2 hours and heavy data/EDGE, TXT and media player use.

Given the differences between the two batteries, I think that's about "equivalent" use.

I just got my curve yesterday, i charged it fully and the battery didn't even last for 24 hours. I've noticed that it transmits and receives almost constantly, which I'm sure sucks up battery. My old 7290 would last a week on a charge.

Does anyone know what apps are always running on the Curve by default? Mine has PTT and Messenger running but I don't use either. I've tried closing them to determine what is causing the constant tx/rx.

Had the Curve since last Friday, and can notice a definite increase in Battery life over time. I'm a real heavy user, phone, email, web
browsing, text, the works!
And my battery is at about 30%
By 10pm, my day starts at about 8am! I also don't charge over night, I plug it in when I get home, and then usually unplug it before I hit my pillow at about 1am or so! So not bad at all with some pretty heavy use! Just a note, my 8800 was at about 50% with the same amount of usage, the slight drop is due to the thinner battery that the Curve use's.
