I'm confused by several things.
Got the curve about 4 days ago, found a link here, and downloaded via OTA from Blackberry.com the BB Maps program. It worked fine, but fairly limited. I used it with an old Delorme Earthmate BlueLogger puck.
I experimented a lot trying to get a Google Maps version that woudl work without success, and in doing so deinstalled the BB Maps (running applicaiton loader).
Yesterday I bought Telenav's premium, downloaded and tried it -- wouldn't run with the Earthmate, said to pair with a different device, and if I didn't still failed. Called them, they said "we only work with our own device from our website". Which is clearly not true, but seemed end of road there.
So I was going back to the BB Maps and tried to download yesterday, and it refused -- from the same web site -- said that my carrier would not permit it. So either I am doing something differently, or in the last few days RIM has blocked AT&T carrier downloads?
I found instructions here for modifying the ALX file to get it off the distributed handheld software, and I now have BB Maps back.
But this leaves me still stuck a bit -- I want to use Telenav but the Cingular stores sell the GlobalSat BT-359, which looks identical, but the Telenav people were very explicit that they would not support anything but their own sold from their own website. They were less explicit as to whether they meant "it won't work" or "we won't help you". I assume the latter. And of course I'm impatient.
So if I buy the BT-359 from Cingular, is it known to work with Telenav?
And am I the only one who can no longer download BB Maps OTA from RIM? Which means no more updates perhaps?
And finally anyone have any indication for sure that Google Maps will ever support external pucks on the 8300? That's what I would really prefer.
Is that enough questions?
