Will the cable from the 8700 work on the 8300? Is so, I will keep one in the office.

If it's USB on one end and mini-usb on the other, it should work just fine. I have a couple of cables that came with Sony cameras, and they work fine with the 8800 and 8300.

Yup, it works. I use my 8700 charger for my 8300, daily.
