I just called up and asked for the "subsidy unlock code" and said I was going to Europe later this Summer and they had me fax the sales receipt showing I paid full retail and then about 24hrs later I got an email with an unlock code and very detailed instructions on how to enter the code.
While I am an at&t customer, I don't think it would have mattered. My IT guy bought one for our boss who is living in London for a year and uses Vodaphone and at&t gave him the unlock code as well for free.
Has anyone else tried just calling up at&t customer service and explaining that you paid retail and want the subsidy unlock code?
maybe i am naive, but my sense is that they will probably email it to you if you ask a few times.
