Default Curve PTT

Please Login to Remove!

There has been a lot of talk on this forum about removing PTT from the active program list but has anyone actually used the AT&T PTT with their phone?

If so, how is it? How does it compare to Nextel's PTT service? My company is thinking about switching from Nextel but won't unless they find a PTT service that is comparable. Thanks for the help.

I used it today for the first time, I have to say it was better than i thought it would be. I was a nextel user way back and it has some quirks that differ from nextel but overall i would say it worked ok...

My wife and I love it. I have never used Nextel so I couldn't give you apple's to apple's. It's very responsive once on a call. Initial call takes a couple of seconds. We used it at the zoo the other day and it was very useful.

I agree.. It works, but has some quirks. The UI for it seems odd if you are used to Nextel.

The main thing I dont like is that when your short little PTT session is over, one of the parties has to hit the "Call End" button to release it.

PM me if you want to add it to your account and test it out with me.

Having used both I preferr the ATT better. I like the fact that I can see who's online without trying to hit them up and getting an annoying tone. I like being able to do call waiting while on ptt and I like being able to turn a ptt session into a regular full duplex phone call. On the negative side, it does talk a little longer to initiate a call and as previously mentioned someone has to end the session by 'hanging up'.

Default PTT Issue

I have 2 Curves with PTT enabled and consistently get a Java Exception when doing the following:
1) Curve A initiates PTT with Curve B
2) PTT session is ended
3) Curve A makes a voice call to Curve B
4) During the ringing of the voice call, Curve B throws a Java Exception

The result of the error causes the PTT feature to go "offline" and additional PTT connections come in as a phone call with 2 extra digits (33) concatenated to the end of the phone caller id. The only way to resolve this state is to try to initiate a PTT and it then proceeds to re-login to the PTT service.

The log produces the following information:
Name: NullPointerException
GUID: 9c3cd62e3320b498

This happens consistently on both phones. I believe this is a PTT and phone bug that I hope the next Curve OS version will rectify. Otherwise, bye bye PTT, because I love my 8300s.

Do you need to sign up for a specific PTT plan? I have a BB plan with unlimited data, and when I attempt to select PTT, it asks me for a name, then tells me PTT Service Not Available, Please contact Cingular. I wonder why where isnt a pay per use kind of thing...

There is a ppu service for ptt. IIRC it is $.15 per minute. You can have 500 minutes for $5 or unlimited use for $10 per month.

Ok so do I need to call to have the PTT PPU turned on, or does it look like a problem seeing as it always says "PTT Service Not available, please contact Cingular". Perhaps PTT isnt up in Orlando?

Thnks
