Hi all,

I just purchased the Curve and have everything set up through BIS for my Gmail account (including a filter to prevent messages I send from being duplicated to myself due to Gmail's conversational dialogue), but I have noticed that I am also receiving my Gmail messages to my normal message folder (the one whereby you create email, SMS, and MMS messages). I don't have a Blackberry email set-up or anything else besides my Gmail configured, so why is my Gmail being sent to my "messages" folder and my "*****@gmail.com messgaes" folder???

Can someone help me with this?

1) go into your message folder
2)once inside the message folder go to options
3)click general options
4)scroll all the way to the last options, and make sure it's selected to separate

A couple of other things...

I attempted to download and saved a .adp file not realizing the phone wouldn't recognize it. Problem is, it saved to device memory and now I can't find it. Where should I be looking for that file to delete it? I've gone through every menu to no avail. What am I missing?


Also, I never hear an alert when I receive an email. How can I set up a notify tone? I have found all the tones, but I have only been able to set tones as the ringtone, but not as a notification tone for specific message types.

Notifier tones are setup under Profiles >Advanced or Edit. Select the email account to change the tones for.

Not sure where to find the .adp file. Have you tried the "Explore" feature under Media? I don't have an 8300 so results may vary!

I seem to have the same issue with the 8300. In the default and gmail folders I have separate checked, however, any email I receive to my gmail account continues to go into both folders, messages and gmail. Am I missing an option?

All email messages go to the "Messages" folder it's like a dumping ground for everything. Then there is a separate folder for each BIS email address. There is no way to change that.

Okay, apparently it did NOT work afterall. I deleted the Gmail account I had set up and then re-established it again hoping to fix the issue. Now all of my emails are going to the first message folder (which I now have figured out is not the MMS folder, but simply a second email folder that I have no idea why it exists) and none are going to the 2nd folder...whereas before they were all going to BOTH.

WTF???

Gotcha...so hiding it is the best option? So why now are all of my gmail messages going into the default folder and NOT the gmail folder? What should I do?

Thank you though on the .adp ringtone thing. I did find it that way. Is there a good source to get ringtones from? When I attempted to hook my device up to my home PC, the media manager option never showed so that I could transer mp3s. Do you HAVE to have a media card installed to even have that option?

Can you not just download the Gmail app for BB and use that?
I have the 8300 and downloaded Gtalk and Gmail apps to my device, both work wonderfully and the Gmail stays within the Gmail app, you can leave it signed in and it will check messages for you all day, or you can just sign in and out.

The Gmail app is one workaround. Personally, I just hide the individual folders and use the main messages folder. Then I use the settings in Security Options to put the diaganol stripes in the email body to alert to which email system I'm using at the time.

Apprently I had the same post last week with exactly the same problem. The answers I got was "You are not able to separate the two if you are on BIS". This is what I tried:

1. options -> General options -> Separate (under sms and email inboxes)
This did not work, everything still will not separate

2. So I hide the message (sms,mms) icon, hten I have discovered that if I DO receive a sms/mms, it will not show up in my e-mail folder, so the notification incon just stays on screen.

If anyone has a better way of doing this, please let me know.

Well, just a second thought after my post... what if you hide the e-mail folder instead of the sms/mms folder?

I will try that right now.

That's what I did and it seems to be working now. My emails are only going to one folder now, so I just hid the other one.
