read the whole post from TBGR

With our newly obtained information, it appears the BlackBerry 8330 will be another World Edition device that will eventually find it's way to CDMA carriers, such as Verizon, Sprint and Telus. If and when it actually finds it's way to market, this will likely be the third CDMA+GSM hybrid device from Research In Motion, joining the 8830 and 8130 (unreleased) with this world-traveler functionality.

Probably around either the fall, or Holiday season!!! The Curve on Verizon would be sweet, however they better do something with the battery life. EVDO will drain that thin Curve battery in less then a days use.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

The "if and when" stuff is there because they don't have a date yet. It makes perfect sense that this is coming out for VZW.

Guessing as to when, I agree with the previous poster who said fall or holidays. The only way I can see VZW not releasing it this year is if thet get the Pearl.

makes me want to return my 8830 and wait it out for either the pearl or curve. That is pretty sweeeet that they all will be CDMA/GSM hybrids, so I can use any one of them on my cruise vacations.

Let's not forget that Verizon did get the 8830 to market only 3 months after at&t released the 8800. That could be an indication that Verizon is aware that the Blackberry market is getting bigger then ever, and that they know what they have to do. That company is like a sleeping giant, a couple of big releases and there right back on top. You'll see and hear plenty of people jumping ship to get back to the big red V. Now at this point with at&t dropping the Curve, and even more importantly the iphone. Its going to make for a hard summer for Verizon as far as customer retention, as well as signing up new customers. A Curve release, New Pearl, the HTC Vox, and there much rumored iphone killer will help them get back on track. But you have to wonder will it be to little to late with so many people already committed to brand spanking new 2 year commitments over on the other side! We'll just have to wait and see.

I'd be surprised if Verizon releases the Pearl and the Curve within the next few months. I would think it would be one or the other.

I think the iPhone will eventually be a cool device, but as a smartphone I can't get into it. Not to mention due to ATT's coverage, the phone portion is going to suck.

I use two carriers too. I ordered the 8300 from at&t a couple of days ago. I am also ordering the 8830 from VZ some time this week. I struggled with waiting for the 8330 on VZ or just going with the 8830. One advantage of the 8830 seems to be that it has GPS. I think that VZ is getting better with the timing of BB releases, but I would assume that there is still a healthy time lag between when the GSM carriers release their BBs and when VZ releases its BBs. Probably, by the time VZ comes out with the 8330, there is a new BB out.....

All VZ phones have GPS, you just have to pay for it. You'll have to pay for it with the 8830 too 'cause you can't install apps like Google Maps. Nothing is free from VZ (can you hear me now?).

It's not a matter of "paying for it" on the VZW 8703e and 8830. GPS is disabled as VZW doesn't have a solution that guarantees that they can be the only provider of GPS on those two devices. There have been rumors that they're working on a solution to offer their 8830 customers but nothing confirmed yet.

My understanding is that VZ is coming up with some kind of GPS functionality within the next few months. It will not be free, but neither is it free on other US carriers as far as I know.

GPS is free on T-Mobile.

That's good to know. The problem is that they don't have the best coverage where I work and live. VZ seems to have the best coverage here and then at&t. I am actually switching from T-Mo to at&t for the 8300. I have heard about the network congestion issues for at&t, but will test it out.

That's a shame. I've taken T-Mobile all over the world and have only ever had real problems in two places: Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE, and Seoul, South Korea. I only had problems in South Korea because T-Mobile did not have any roaming agreements at the time. There is no GSM there, but both SK Telecom and KTF have installed UMTS 2100 in addition to their CDMA networks, and T-Mobile now has an agreement with KTF, so I won't have that problem anymore.

If Verizon is getting the Curve by the end of the year, I am definitely switching over when my contract ends with T-Mobile. I dropped Verizon a few years back but they have the best coverage in my house. I had AT&T before it became Cingular then back to AT&T now, their service is a bit better than T-Mobile but not great. Since I get a discount through LA County, I will go with Verizon.
