Default New mobile youtube on blackberry? - 06-16-2007, 07:10 PM

Does anyone know how to get the new mobile youtube (m.youtube.com) to work on the blackberry curve? When I click to play one of the videos I get an error stating it can't render the page.

Would this require an OS update from blackberry to make it work?

from looking the video links -- it seems to require either realplayer or something that could play 3gp videos over rtsp. i don't think either exist for the blackberry.

Thanks for the tinytube.net suggestion!

I just went to the site with my Pearl, did a search for "The Doors", clicked on a video(selected "low"), after it said "the video is ready, play now" I clicked the link and it loaded and played.

I didn't change any settings.... just used the default Pearl settings.

I don't see why it wouldn't work on a Curve as well.

EDIT: I just tried selecting "high" and "stream" and it wouldn't work, so make sure and select 'low'.

Tinytube.net works for me on low!....Ditto on the High and Stream settings--didn't work. It seems the file is too large. Thanks for the tip folks!!!

I can get some of the videos to work on high on my curve but not all of them. Only the short videos work on high. I also load them on then play them.

I am using the BB browser with no emulation. I have not tried to stream anything yet so I can't help you there. However I am able to download and save files of any size.

I tried the new youtube site for mobiles http://m.youtube.com on the html browser and i got in but when trying to watch a video I got an error message saying "A problem occured while trying to render the page". Then I tried the site through the wap browser and it showed up nicely but when trying to watch a video the curve rebooted.

Hi guys, I just changed my Emulation Mode in the browser general settings from BlackBerry to Openwave (WAP) and hit save. Now I can watch or save these videos on high. Before I could only watch on low. I don't even know what this does. Should I change it back?

Only the smaller files.

Youtube's mobile site doesn't work for me, but the tinytube site works fine for me if I enable Openwave WAP mode. If I leave BlackBerry mode on it says the target is too large for the device.

The BB doesn't support the media from YouTube. Tinytube is all that works for now.

It seems like people on at&t are having a lot of success getting TinyTube to work.

Are you guys adjusting anything other than the emulation mode? I've tried Openwave (WAP), Microsoft IE, and Blackberry modes, and I've only gotten one video (around 15 seconds, on Low) to download. Everything else I select gives me the "HTTP Error 413: Request Entity Too Large" error.

Anything else I should try?

Is the file size that the browser can handle configurable in BES?

got it to load....but 9/10 it tells me that the video is too large for my phone. and another thing, i assumed after clicking download it would automatically save into my video folder....so i closed out of the screen...but that isn't the case...is the video somewhere in limbo land...or do i have to click save for it to actually be saved to my phone.

I'm getting the same error (too large).

I looked through the Policy settings in the BlackBerry enterprise manager, and I couldn't find anything that would restrict the file sizes that the browser could handle.

It also doesn't seem like it's a carrier problem since other people on at&t are having success with it. Strange!

It's because YouTube's streaming architecture is flash-based. Until the new multi-platform Adobe player comes out, flash will not work on a BlackBerry. Apple and Adobe made a flash for iPhone which is what m.youtube is for.

I was about to post the same - blueapple.mobi works very smoothly on the Curve, you can sit there for hours watching dumb old video clips of everything under the sun.

Not true. There is no such partnership and no Flash capability for iPhone. YouTube capability is built into the iPhone by streaming alternatively encoded versions of select videos. It's an exclusive partnership between Apple and Google.

Apparently that poster has never used youtube on an iphone. It is its own application, and is apparent if you have used it. If you use mobile Safari to browse to the youtube web site, you can't watch the streaming youtube videos from the web page like you could on a PC.

I can play and download the 'high' versions of the video (and store on my media card) with no problems directly on my BB from both blueapple.mobi and tinytube.net - and some have been as long as 3 or so minutes. For larger videos or youtube videos I go to Flvix.com - Free online video converter. Convert videos from Youtube, Google Video to the formats AVI, MOV, MP4, 3GP, MP3 from my laptop. (I have not been able to do this directly from my BB. The only link that worked like this was 3gptogo.com but that site isn't working now) I then paste the youtube URL into their browser then select the link to convert it to an .avi file. Then I download that to my laptop and bring in to Roxio Media Manager. When you choose the option to copy to your media card - it asks you to 'convert for optimum performance' (not exact words) and then automatically makes it a .3gp file perfect for viewing on your BB!

Hi. I can get the videos to download fine using blueapple.mobi, but when I go to play them, I only get sound, no video. I have a blackberry 8130 on Verizon. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

I'm posting fro my BB now.

I tried the tinytube. But it is telling me that there's 545 downloads in front of me and mine will be ready in about 16 min. I have been using blueapple.mobi with no problems at all. Just wish the videos were full screen.

I have an 8300 on AT&T and I can't get anything but the previews to play on my BB browser. Could someone who has it working properly post their exact browswer settings?

Thanks!
