So I haven't purchased a Blackberry yet but I am very close. I currently carry a Treo 700P (feel free to point and laugh). Without a doubt the WORST phone I've ever owned, and I was a diehard Palm person before that disaster.

Anyway, I don't want to make the same mistake twice. I've read some reviews of the 8830 and nothing is jumping out at me as deal breaker.

Some of the issues I have now are OS lag, SMS Lag, random restarts, media skipping and a slew of others.

Does the 8830 have any of these issues or any that might make it not worth getting?

Yes, your BlackBerry "could" have some of those issues--why not?--it is an electronic device.

I don't know what SMS lag is--slow SMS delivery? That would be your carrier's responsibility.

OS lag, random restarts and media skipping can normally be treated proactively with your battery-pull-reboots on an occassional basis like about once per week. Such reboot will normally clear memory cache, refresh apps and remove junk left in memory--all of which can cause the three problems mentioned.
Otherwise, any BlackBerry is a much more stable as I believe you will discover.
Good luck.
