Default Stuck Trackball - 06-22-2007, 11:46 PM

I hope that I am not the only one who has had the misfortune of having their trackball get stuck and not move in one direction... But I couldn't find any posts on it so here is a link that I found helpful in getting mine back to going.

BlackBerryInsight » How to clean your BlackBerry’s Trackball

I'm not so sure that the trackball is going to last out my contract on the phone, it just doesn't seem like it's sturdy enough to make it.

You didn't find this post?

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ll+disassembly

I found it, and many others, by typing "trackball disassembly" into the search bar.

"Disassembly" was the only one I didn't try. I knew as soon as I posted it that somebody would probably find it.hehe Pictures here are much better than the ones I found. Thanks for the correction!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Thank you for that! I have been having intermittent problems with my track ball not wanting to scroll down, so I will definitely bookmark this for future use.

Get a can of Air and blast directly into the trackball. That fixed my 8800's problem. Make sure to hold the can vertical and shoot a test blast or two to make sure you're not shooting frost.

Does anyone remember the famous IBM Tech Paper describing how to clean mouse balls?

I had the malfunctioning trackball, wouldn't go up. Blowing compressed air didn't help. I then popped off the silver rink using the procedure outlined in the link, and this lets the trackball unit out. I didn't disassemble the unit but just used compressed air on it and in the space, put it back together and -- fingers crossed -- it is working fine. This is a *much* less risky procedure than disassembling the trackball unit.
