Question Speed Dial crazy noise

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone figured out how to turn off the digital sound the curve makes when you speed dial? Thanks in advance.

Mine does not make that digital noise when using speed dial. I guess you mean the DTMF tones?

Yes, they are DTMF tones, but they are a 'crazy noise' because the DTMF tones are the same no matter what # you call. i.e. try using two different speed dial assignments, you'll get the same DTMF emulated noises.

This has been covered in more than one previous thread.

There is no way to suppress this sound.

He is referring to the crazy high speed dtmf digital sound effect when you dial a speed dial, not the actual dtmf keypress sounds.

Yes, I am fully aware of the DTMF tones made when dialing from the dial pad. I've answered that question to others on here many times.
However, I just tested the speed dial on both my 8700 and 8800, and I don't get the tones when using speed dial, at all.

Would you tell me how you are speed dialing? From the homescreen, holding down a single speed dial key to dial?

the sound he is talking about, if from the homescreen, you press and hold 1 key, it dials vm. It makes a fast(almost matrix like) dialing sound. The only way I have found to not have this sound happen is to use the quiet profile.

but I like the sound and think it is cool, but I am a dork.

I didn't get it on my 8700 nor 8800- only from the 8300 to date in my experience.

I'm pretty sure the speed-dialing sound only comes up on the 8300. I didn't get it on my Pearl or 8800. It's only a problem when I have to dial out to my voicemail in a quiet place where I shouldn't be using my cell phone. Other than that I totally love the sound.

FYI: if you use the "Vibrate" or "Quiet" profiles while you "aren't supposed to use your phone", you do NOT get the sound when you use speed dial...

i just tried it on my 8300

EDIT: i'm "not supposed" to use my cell phone at work either... not for security reasons, for marine corps reasons

FWIW, my 8830 makes that same sound when using a speed dial number from the home screen. Count me as one of the dorks that kinda likes it!

I still get the sound when I'm on those profiles.
