Default Question about data plans

Please Login to Remove!

I am about to purchase a curve and I was wondering if the media max plan for 29.99 will work with it. My friend has an 8800 and he has a personal 10mb data plan.

Yes, the MediaMax plan will work. I believe that gives you unlimited data access along with 1500 text and mms messages.

Thank you for your speedy reply. I was wondering if you knew whether there were any issues with using the mediaMax plan on the curve.

I am not aware of any as I am using T-Mobile. I had looked at AT&T Wireless' page and saw that option. I wouldn't think there would be any issues, as it seems to be just a bundle of a couple of their services.

I dont think so... I think you need the second one on this page:
BlackBerry® Personal Max with 1500 Messages
Get Started - AT&T, formerly Cingular Wireless

Not sure tho... But ****ing ATT IS EXPENSIVE... I <3 T-mo or Nextel (employee page, google) for pricing.

Media MAX will not give you ANY Blackberry services or Blackberry data. For thsi you must have a Blackberry plan.

You can't use any BlackBerry features (e-mail, blackberry browser, blackberry messenger, etc..) without a BlackBerry specific data plan.
With a non-BB data plan, you might be able to use a browser such as Opera for some web browsing with the proper APN settings, but other than that you just have a phone with SMS capabilities.

You can still use the BlackBerry for voice. But you won't have access to the push e-mail that the BlackBerry is known for. Some people find work arounds for web surfing without a data plan, but I highly recommend getting one.

Well with the Media Max plan, you would be missing out on the bb push e-mail (or e-mail in general) as well as bb messenger, gps, etc.

Not sure if you would inquire charges for the web browsing on Opera mini.

Media Max is basically all the features except for e-mail. Txt, mms, sms is included.

For the price of the Media Max you could get a bb unlimited data plan which includes all the above with 1500 txt messages and bb push e-mail. I don't really consider Media Max to be a data plan per say.

This Works, I have had an 8100 and now a 8300 with only normal WAP data on my plan. You can download opera and install it via desktop manager and it will work and charge normally as any other phone. In fact, with my 8300 the MediaNet BB browser actaully worked and I did not have to download Opera. However, as everyone else said, the BB Normal Browser, Email, MMS, and PIN messenging does not work. I basically bought it because BB is a great phone, great PDA, and nice to have a full keyboard for SMS text.

Yes........I have a company plan that only has 1Meg of internat (WAP) and 400 Text and everything works fine. I just have to obviosly watch my Internet usage through Opera or BB Medianet Browser to make sure I do nto go over, or not by much. Text SMS acts as normal SMS on lets say a Razr, as well as the Medianet internet WAP usage. No extra charges. But like I said, no email, MMS, or PIN Messaging, they alll use data side of things. Opera, WAP, SMS are not considered data plan needed .......

Thank you. I was wondering if you knew if I would face any issues loading applications such as JiveTalk.

Not really sure about that one. I just loaded Google Maps on my 8300 without any issues though.
