hello all. i am attempting to downgrade my operating system, so that i can have a browser to use with t-mobile. i have followed exactly the directions for upgrading (see below) to a different OS, and when i connect the BB, and open the DM, i am not prompted to upgrade. what am i doing wrong/need to do?

1. Download and install the latest Desktop Manager from here
2. Download and install the OS packaged linked above.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Connect BB, open Desktop Manager and you should be prompted to upgrade.

Are you trying to UPgrade or DOWNgrade? You mention both in your question.

What OS version do you have now, and what OS version are you wanting to move to that you have installed on your PC?

Use JL_Cmder to wipe the OS from the device. Otherwise DM will never offer to install an older OS.

After step 4, try launching the Application Loader. That usually does it for me.

d, I believe AppLoader will ask you if you wish to downgrade. New to me also, until I read this, seems to be confirmed.

Yes, it will ask you to downgrade but you have to run Application Loader. It doesn't prompt as does an upgrade.

To the OP. Make sure you uninstall all versions from the PC by going to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Then install the version you'd like to install to the BB. Delete the vendor.xml. Then plug in, open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader. It will tell you it's going to "downgrade."

for your assistance. however, my application loader simply isn't working. it gives me the "the blackberry software that you have installed does not include blackberry for the hand-held you have" etc. i have downloaded the most recent version of DM, and removed the vendor.xls file. so, i really don't know what the problem is.

incidentally, everything is working perfectly on my handheld. i was looking for a browser that was right there all along, in front of my face. it is the globe, with the yellow arrow going around the equator. it's a t-zones browser, and i open it, and it goes to wap.voicestream.com, and i get a wap browser error message. however, i simply use the goto feature of the browser, and surf anywhere on the net i please. BIS email is working perfectly. i still have to configure my BES email through work. i can email pictures as attachments, etc.

i tried to change the home screen on my browser, and it didn't work. anyone know how to do that? i should say, it wouldn't allow me.

so, i am running the 4.2.2.89 OS, and i have my internet browser through T-MO. i know some people thought this wasn't possible...

Change your homescreen? You may mean change your Theme?
Options > Theme.

I don't understand why your App Loader won't recognize the OS upgrade/downgraded, but I have seen a couple other users here post that error. I am not sure you what you thought is not possible (nternet browser through T-MO?), but that is the way it works.

In addition to the Desktop Manager (DM) did you download and install the OS package from O2? After installing both files you'll need to delete the vendor.xml. Then connect and run Desktop Manager and Application Loader.

With the ATT version you are still missing the "Browser." It seems you can get a wap browser (TZones) but not the Regular BB Browser. You may have difficulties with the web on your BES without the Browser/BBBrowser.
