i have been having trouble running my apploader, as i have attempted to downgrade my handheld OS. i have reported, as have others on the forum, that the application loader was not functioning, and i was getting the error message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to your computer. Contact your wireless service proivider..."

now, when apploader opens, there are two options. first, leave the systems applications unchanged - select this option if you want to continue loading non-system applications, while leaving the systems applications that are loaded onto the device unchanged. when i select this option, i get the error message.

however,

when i select the 2nd option - "replace the device's applications with the older version provided by the Blackberry Desktop software" - i get the list of applications, and am then able to pick and choose what to install/remove/downgrade...

question. was this my problem all along. was i just making the wrong selection, meaning that i was choosing leave the systems applications unchanged, instead of replacing the device's applications with the older version provided by the desktop software - OR - is my apploader still not working properly?

it would seem now, that i am not able to simply add non-system applications to my BB...

In the past, to downgrade your OS, you had to go through a while wipe of the existing OS and loading new.

I am betting that once you have your BB "downgraded" to the OS you desire, you will be able to go back and use that first option to load non-system applications.

Your posting all this information now helps to understand the process and error you were receiving: the App Loader won't let you add non-system applications to a device for which it does not have the operating system on-hand, on the desktop.

however, i am not inclined to downgrade, at this point. i have the bb browser (globe w/ yellow circle around it), and i'm able to surf the web. my BIS email is working fine. i am just waiting for work to send me the server address/ingoing and outgoing mail server so i can set up my BES mail account. if all of that goes well, i don't think i'll have to downgrade.

i don't see the benefits of a downgrade. i know i have read that using t-mobile, i can't get a bb browser, and that i MAY run into trouble with BES internet. well, i have the browser, and as for BES, we shall see.

how do i get the OS of MY hand-held onto my desktop. this way, you see, i can add non-system applications without downgrading???

Find out what version you have on your BB, then download it from whatever carrier has it and load it to your PC.

however, i do have a bb browser. so, that seems to contradict the conventional wisdom.

anyone know where i can get this OS software, so that i can install it on my desktop???
