| calendar sync problems Please Login to Remove! Let me start by saying I'm new to blackberry, but I've had many PIM/phones from the Treos to the Motorola Q - I now have a 8830 from Verizon
I've installed the calendar patch, but I'm still having trouble syncing with Outlook - I'm now getting an error message that I have duplicate records found on the device (I think I've deleted as many duplicates as I can find) and the synchronization then stops with out moving on to the address book. The duplicates are not showing up in Outlook, is there a way to find them on the BB? Any suggestions - I can't get any of the new appointments from the BB to my desktop.
Thanks in advance for any help | | Offline

| Mickey, welcome to the Forums.
Try sorting the Address Book in a different manner (Address Book > Options > Sort by), and see if you can find the duplicates. The BB indexes and ties the sync to the First, Last and Company name fields. You shouldn't have any duplicates (I know I do have duplicats of the company name field, just different first and last in those records). | | Offline

| eh, well I feel like a dip now. You did say calendar. Very clearly.
I'm stumped, unless you can find all the duplicates. I am befuddled how you got duplicates in there in the first place. | | Offline

Thanks in advance for any help | I'm NOT new to Blackberries, but I'm now on my third 8830 since early May.
I hadn't had a problem with Outlook synching until this newest 8830, but now I'm getting the SAME error message: "duplicate records found on the device."
This is something that has happened in the 8830 hardware or software since I got my previous (problematic) 8830 in early July, because although it had other problems, it sync'd just fine. I just downloaded the newest version of desktop manager, but it still doesn't work.
For what it's worth, you can go into Synchronize, click on Configuration, and de-select the calendar. That way you can at least sync the rest of your data. But if you live and die by your calendar, as I do, this is a VERY serious problem.
Ideas from anyone would be helpful. | | Offline

| Duplicates Aren't A Problem I should have mentioned that I've had blackberries for years, syncing with Outlook, and duplicates have never been a problem (except once when my BB dumped a bunch of duplicates into my calendar and I still haven't cleared them all out)
Getting rid of EVERY duplicate isn't going to help you -- there's something else going on with the 8830's that have come out recently. | | Offline

Is there a fix to it? Any suggestions? | Yep i just got the exact same error message on my 8300 this morning. I had been away for a few days at a trade show and came back to re sync new contacts and calendar entries and it gives the duplicate record warning. I have even tried removing the new contacts i added whilst away but it appears to make no difference.
By deselecting calendar sync i could sync my contacts. Is there anyway to delete the calendar on the handheld but retain my contacts?

| 8830 and Alienware laptop I've been reading the sync posts here and have a more general question: Is anybody having an issue getting your VZW BB 8830 to be recognized by Desktop Manager? I have gotten my device to randomly sync about 3 times since owning it for the last 6 weeks after doing several far fetched operations including turning off my firewall (to get a USB device recognized!). Verizon has kicked me over to Blackberry support, and they are equally perplexed (but way more helpful)...
I have an Alienware laptop running XP Pro and a McAfee AV product. I've reinstalled BB Desktop Manager (4.2.2) multiple times, removed my antivirus and deleted all USB root hubs several times as well, but still get an error message when plugging my 8830 into any of my 4 hubs.
The device has been great, however, with no sync ability I'm about to kick this thing to the curb...
Any thoughts? | | Offline

| I suggest backing up your data and then wiping it - deleting all the data and then running the sync.
If it works then you are good to go. If not, you have the backup to restore.
You might also want to post this in the 8800 forum as opposed to the 8300 section. Might get more looks.

| I just had this problem an figured what caused it how to fix it (in my case).
I had edited a calendar record (date and time), and then found the orginal date and time (as an extra record?) were still showing (as well as the dited date/time) in the agenda view at least. I then deleted the entry at the original date/time and the duplicat error when syncing went away.
Hope this helps someone.

| This is a super annoying problem. I have the same issue with my calendar not synching.
I followed the RIM KB13330 instructions and backed up my calendar, cleared the handheld calendar, deleted all handheld calendar service books, resent service books, then restored the backup calendar. This didn't help at all. Same duplicate record issue.
I haven't synched in a long time so I can't just delete the handheld calendar and synch over my outlook calendar as some people are suggesting to do.
Anyone found any other resolution to this problem? I guess I will go through the long process of tmo tech support -> RIM tech support if I can't figure it out in the next hour.

| After speaking to Tmobile tech support, I realized I would have to figure this out myself. Tmo said the handheld calendar data was corrupt and there wasn't anything I could do.
Quick update on how I "fixed" my issue:
I backed up my blackberry then downloaded "ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter 6.10" to view the .IPD file.
From there I exported it to excel, split the date and time fields then exported to .CSV. Then I imported all the events into a clean Outlook .PST.
Finally, I cleared out my handheld calendar using backup/restore->advanced and then synched it all back up.
It all works now but what a pain in the...
Only data I lost was recurrence info. That is huge for me but luckily I didn't have too many of them so I just added the recurrence info back in. I only had 75 total events so this was feasible, if not, I would have been screwed.
Lesson learned, backup often! In case the DB ever gets corrupt again I could just lose a day or two of data rather than a few months.
