Yes, it's supported!

Tried an 8GB card in my Curve and that, too, worked flawlessly.

I have seen the 4 GB cards from $60-$100 right now. When "might" Sandisk do an 8 GB card and where might I find more info on that find? Thanks for an info for a newbie.

8GB? I am so stoked!
Anyone have an idea if a 16 or even a 32 or more is possible for a MicroSD?

official support might be 2GB, but both the curve (8300) and vzw's worldphone bb (8830) support 4GB cards without issue.

the 4gb works great with mine, but i did have one issue. originally, i did not format it and just began adding songs, etc. it worked great, but then all of the sudden one day the phone would not recognize it. so, i formatted the card, re-added the songs, and everything seems to be working fine again.

The 8100 pearl isnt going to work with anything over 2gb. The microSD cards larger then 2gb are SDHC type cards, the 8300 and 8830 are the only current models that work with SDHC. Going forward the next pearl should have SDHC support as well.

This happened to me several times. What I learned is that I need to "Safely Remove .." before I unplug the USB especially if there is a folder/file open. That seemed to keep it from happening

Not true. With the latest Pearl OS a 4gb card will work. Check this thread out.

Does the brand mean anything? Is Transcend any different than SanDisk? Because at Amazon the price is $44 for the Transcend vs. $71.50 for SanDisk.

I read an article article on the upcoming 8820 with a "Micro SDHC slot for Flash cards of up to 32GB". Forgive my naivety, but is this to be compatible with the 8300 as well?
Cause I would just wet my pants knowing that I could have 32G on my Curve.

32gb cards wont be available anytime soon. We should see 8gb by the holiday season. They should work in any microSDHC compatible device.

Transcend is just as good of a brand. I have used many of their cards without issue.

Thanks for confirming this about the 8gb card, which I suspected.

Regular SD cards, to my knowledge, have a max capacity of 2gigs, and the SDHC cards have capacities from 4-32 gigs. Since the Curve supports the SDHC card, I couldn't understand why folks were saying that it would take a maximum of a 4gb card. It seems that the Curve should handle whatever capacity the SDHC card comes in.

But, i'm not a techno geek, so maybe I'm wrong.

Anyone know if there is a fix out there for this?

I am glad it works and I will eventually purchase that size. However, the question revolved around support. RIM's attitude on 4G is that you are to proceed at your own peril.

The one time I used the "Safely Remove" feature it locked up my Curve and would not let me back in. After removing the Media card the Curve worked fine. Latter I used a card reader to remove a file that written/corrupted on the media card and was back in business. Personally I"ll never use that feature again and haven't. I have not had any problems since.

I remember seeing a press release on a tech news site saying it supports up to 32 microsdhc cards and half the comments were saying how the creator was in idiot because those don't exist. But the funny thing is that it's already been stated that they will go that high and the curve would support it because it's sdhc lol

Forget about the 4 gig . Sandisk just announced the 6 gig. The only thing is the the 4 gig writes faster than the 6gig. 6 gig should be out by months end. Unless anyone has seen it in the wild?

anyone? lol

I did read that I think it is SanDisk, not sure though on which vendor for certain, but they are releasing 8gb, 16gb and 32gb microSDHC cards sometime after the start of the year. I saw the article off Slashdot, and a couple other places. The prices were in Yen, but REALLY high...

[update]
Correction on that. I don't know the vendor, but I just did some searching that jogged my memory. It's going to be 8gb max for microSD, and then they will have 16 and 32gb early 2008.
[/update]

can anyone comment on the speeds of these cards? as in 2gb and 4gb sizes?

i have a first gen 1gb kingson that isnt microSDHC. just plain old microSD and its SLOW AS MOLASSES! reminds me of the first gen usb memory sticks.

if anyone actually has numerical stats it would help (i.e. r/w speeds in MB/s) thanks!

To my understanding, Sandisk makes the most phone friendly cards out there. I have only ever bought Sandisks and I have never had problems on any of my phones readings 2gb and 4gb ones when others had problems. I am not sure if this was just luck or not, but it's enough to keep me buying Sandisks. I also had a phone geek at Microcenter confirm this to me as well.

Anyways, here is a link to the 4gb Sandisk at Microcenter online:
