Default Unable to even see SMS as an option - 07-24-2007, 10:24 AM

I recently activated my BB Curve and after a visit to the cingular store as well as several hours on the phone (most of the time waiting), no one has been able to solve why the option to even compose sms or reply to an sms does not appear. Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so does anyone know how to fix it? i can give more details if needed. and i have also tried resending my service books several times, doing the host routing table, doing a battery pull, having cingular restart stuff from their side, and upgrading the software on the actual phone. im lost here guys. help?

To clarify, you are unable to see "Compose SMS" in the message menu when you want to compose a new message? Are you able to receive SMS? Do you have "Compose MMS"?

Your details may actually help. How recent did you get this 8300?

Is your device connected to a BES? Is there an IT policy applied to the device by your IT department?

IT policies will remain on the device even after a handheld wipe.

Yeah, sorry about the vagueness there. I am unable to see compose SMS in the message menu when i want to compose a new message. i also do not see a reply when people SMS me, which i can receive. i do have Compose MMS. i got the 8300 over the weekend and it was used when i got it.

the device is not conneted to a BES but i am not sure if the previous owner had it connected to a BES. is there a way to check / remove myself from it?

Options > Security Settings > General Settings: Look at bottom "Services" is there anything listed there?

That is good, no IT policy.

Call you carrier and confirm they have SMS activated on your account. AT&T should, but sometimes things get screwed up.

WOW. just wow.

ok so i noticed that above the spot where it said no services it said IT policy and last updated sometime in June (before i had the phone) so i was like alright i guess it has a policy on it? so i found that wiki sorta site thanks to one of your guys signature! (i forget if it was yours or the other guys). well i started to backup my BB and i took my password i made up off and when i looked at my SMS screen one last time i now had the option to compose PIN and compose SMS.

how the heck did this randomly apear? i'ev been working on this none stop for a day and it hasnt done anything but now it seemingly just allowed me to use SMS?

anyways..... im glad my BB is fully rolling now. thanks guys!
