| Device Backup Failing - HELP! Please Login to Remove! I can't back up my BB anymore, and would love some help/guidance/thoughts.
Not sure why, but it won't complete...here's what happens:
During "Receiving Profiles," I get an error that says, "The data was not recognized by the device" and then it quits the backup.
Any thoughts? | | Offline

| Use the backup/restore Adavanced feature and clear the profiles database on the device. Then try the backup again. | | Offline

| That's what I wanted to do, but Profiles was grayed out, and wouldn't let me clear it out. I guess I can try again. | | Offline

| I have the same problem, and I think it is because the BB is not completely recognized by the PC. I am still trying to solve this problem by doing a hard reset then connecting to the Desktop manager/application loader. Will let you know if this works. | | Offline

| OK. It seems to work.
Try this:
- With your BB power on, take out the battery.
- Keep the battery out for 30 sec
- Then put the battery in, this will start the BB and perform automatically a Hard Reset
- Plug the BB via the USB, switch on the Desktop Manager's Application loader.
- I think the PC will recognize the BB due to this process
- MAKE SURE THAT YOU CONNECT THE BB TO PC (via the USB Cable)ASAP POSSIBLE, otherwise, it might not catch the BB before it finishes the Hard Reset
Please don't ask me why, I just read this tip about 20 min ago, and it worked.
If it doesn't work, I think you just have to search a bit more on this forum to get some ideas.
Good luck. | | Offline

| I don't think that's the issue, but thanks for the idea.
Right now, when I look at the Profiles, the options when I go to edit them are WAY too short. The Curve has like 20 different things you can set vibe/tone for, but my list is like the one on the 8700. It used to be longer. I don't quite know what happened here.
Anyway to reset this other than through the advanced backup/restore (as that still won't work for me)? | | Offline

| OK, I re-installed the OS from scratch, and that took care of it. Too bad there's no simpler/non-destructive and time-consuming way to do this. | | Offline

| I am having the exact same problem. I cannot delete profiles, as someone suggested. Could someone explain how this is done. My solution, for now, is to backup everything except profiles. I really don't want to go through the aggravation of reinstalling the OS.
As long as I am on the subject, is there anyway to quickly and easily install the OS and restore everything, all settings (profile, application order, web bookmarks, applications, and application data, such Pocketday settings, Beyond 411 settings, etc.
Thanks.
Chris

Chris | I'm having the same issue, and right now am doing a selective backup. I'm wondering what's the issue with the profiles - I have both Jivetalk and IM+, both of which were updated around mid July when my auto backups stopped working. Does anyone with this issue have either or both? (they both provide options in the Profiles)

I'm having the same problem as it seems to fail on the phone book database. I'm wondering as I deactivated my voice line at roughly the same time. After installing the 7/4 update. What os are you using and do you have only data or both data and voice?

| I was having the issue with the original AT&T OS that came on the device, and then with the SmarTone OS that's posted on this site.
It took an OS reinstall to get me there, unfortunately. What sucks about that is that you can't do a backup before hand because of this problem. Luckily, I had a backup that was only like 3 weeks old, and my data would get re-updated once I synced, so it wasn't the end of the world, but a definite pain in the arse
