I have a microsd card installed and have copy and pasted numerous .mov (10MB or less) movies on my sd card. When I go to play them it just sits there saying "loading" without anything happening.

.mov is supported and should play. The only video that plays on my curve is the preloaded Blackberry video.

I do have other media on my card like music and pictures that load perfectly.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just got an .wmv file to play but it was only sound and no video. Resolution, bit rate etc all is within the spec required.

Am I missing something here or what? .mov's just sit saying "loading". Not one video plays except for the preloaded blackberry video.

ps. I am copying and pasting through windows explorer. I am not using the software that came with the 8300.

Why don't you at least try to use the desktop manager. When you do, it asks if you want it to convert the file for optimal viewing on your bb. This may be your problem.

Thanks I will try this, but you'd think it would not be this finnicky. I copied and pasted music and pictures using the bb like a usb drive with no problems.

Anything else you can think it could be?

Try the desktop manager first, then go from there.

IT could be the video encoding.
Definitely try Roxio's Media Manager as it was written to work specifically for BlackBerry's and should fix the problematic file.

Actually, Music and Picture formats are very, very standardized with just a couple of codec's (JPEG, GIF, MP3 CBR/VBR and AAC are pretty much it.)

Video files come in so many different types of containers with each having dozens of possible codecs used internally. For example, AVI files can contain XviD, DivX, Cinepak, MPEG-4, and many others - and that's just the video stream. Then syncing up to an audio stream which could be AC3, AAC, MP3, MP2, MP4, and so many others. This is all JUST for AVI.

I also recommend using the Roxio and see if it works for you. Personally, I'm having trouble with it working 100% also. I used a program called Xilisoft Video Converter which worked for me. I used this one before to make WMV files compatible with my XBOX 360 also. If all else fails, you might try there.

I personally don't like Roxio's Desktop Manager. My biggest complaint is that I have to have my Curve plugged in before the option to "Convert for Optimal Viewing" appears. I also can't convert files in batch. Am I not using the Roxio software correctly?

I had this same problem when I tried to drop media files onto the card using a card reader - sound, but no video. So, I deleted them and re-copied them (in a batch) using the Media Manager, letting it "convert" the files for optimum playback. Voila - no problems.

Had a similar problem, use the desktop manager. You'll be glad you did....

Roxio Media Manager absolutely sucks. I updated my DVD drive's firmware and upon reboot, Media Manager auto-launched it's installer and went into a continuous loop of being unable to locate the installer MSI file. Even when I put the BB original CD-ROM into the CD and pointed DIRECTLY to it, it said the file wasn't the correct one or something.

I had to dig it's crud DIRECTLY out of the Windows installer folders as well as the registry BY HAND - something only a software developer could manage to do without corrupting the registry.

Trust me, I tried everything before resorting to this - I tried repair install, uninstall (which always locked up while it attempted to take out Media Manager). I tried a few more things which I forget now.

I too have the same problem. I'm bored at work so i decided to DL some South Park episodes so I can watch while waiting to get a haircut later today. I don't have the Desktop Manager installed on my comp at work so I just used windows explorer. I get choppy erratic skipping during playback including the audio, then an error message. I'm anxious to get out of work and go home to see if the desktop manager will cure this problem. Will update you all on the results.

guys I got 5 hours of high stakes poker episodes so far on my 2gb card and it works perfect.

The only problem I have is that it times out after 5 or 7 minutes and locks my phone up like it was in the holster. I need help with setting the timer lock...look for my previous thread..

forgot to tell you I use the roxio and it works like a charm, on another note I just switched my car insurance to geiko and I'm now saving 30% more on my auto insurance.

Okay so I went home and used the desktop manager to upload video files into my Curve, and it optimized for better playback like advertised. But now for some reason, after viewing the videos for a few minutes, the phone goes into some freeze, and all I see is the hourglass rotating around. I have to take out the battery and put it back in before it loads up properly again. any solutions/explanations?

My problem is everytime I try to access my video folder on my computer with the desktop manager and error pop up and close my software i try to reinstall it and the error still happen. the first time it work and the video was very clear which i love. i just wish it would work again.

Try Blackberry Video Converter from Seabryd Technologies. All video formats I have converted so far play like a charm.
