Starting with the default desktop display on my 8300, I created a new folder using
Menu > Add Folder
... all I had to do was give the new folder a unique name.
(1) I would like to add three small text files to this folder. How do I do that?
(2) Only one icon is available in the setup menu. Can I build my own icons (apparently it uses two: one for normal viewing and one for "mouse over" events) in Photoshop and download it to 8300 to use.

1) You can't. THe home screen is not a file explorer
You can drag and drop icons on you home screen to this new folder. I and others use it to move icons that you do not use often. You can use it to keep your icons in groups, too.
It adds a folder on the main screen that allows you to put items from the main screen into it. That way instead of having all your programs on the same screen, you can organize them into folders if you wish.
However, it might be pointless to do this. When I have added a folder on my screen and put icons inside of it I found that the folder and the icons I put in there disappear after the device is reset.
I must be dense because I can't figure out how to do that. When I move the application close to the folder it just puts it on one side or the other of the folder. How do I get it to put it in the folder?
