Default New Curve owner - No Internet

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I just purchased a new 8300 Curve with AT&T. I ported my number from T-Mobile. I can make outgoing calls but trying to call my number rings the older phone.

I also have another problem. My pop email was set up at AT&T, no problems there but I cannot browse the internet with either the browser or Media.net. i get the following message:

"Unable to open a PDP Context to the following APN:

wap.cingular

This may be happening becasue the currently selected Browser configuration is not compatible with the current network"

The phone is new and I haven't change any settings. I appreciate any help with my problems. By the way, I am only using a BIS account.

Perhaps you simply need to change your APN to: WAP.VOICESTREAM.COM

I was under the impression that due to a T-Mobile limitation, the only way to get a browser on the unlocked Curve was to install the British carrier O2's BB operating system. Lately I've heard folks claim they get a browser with AT&T's os. Dunno if something has been changed and AT&T's os now gives a working browser on TMO or if it's confused noobs not sure of what they've got.

Sounds to me your port is incomplete. T-Mo has likely assigned your new phone a temp number so you can start using those minutes the second you get it. When the port is complete your old phone will no longer ring. Simply dial your own number with you new phone and see what number (caller ID) comes up on your old phone and that would be the temp number they gave you for porting. This is simply how it works.

My number ported this morning and I received an email confirmation. I called my number with another phone and the phone portion works.

I still cannot get on the internet. It says GSM as my network. I am also unable to send and receive emails. When I try to send an email, there's a clock symbol beside the messages i try to send out.

I am baffled as what to do.

Did you get an AT&T Blackberry Data Plan? Gotta have one of those for email and internet. You could use the phone and SMS features without a data plan but no email or internet. If you do have the BB Data Plan you might try resending your service books, and if that doesn't do it, call AT&T and ask about your account. It may not be provisioned correctly.

I'm sorry for all the trouble. I called AT&T and they asked me to stop by so they can take a look at it (I'm just 5 minutes away). The sales rep. just popped out the battery and reinstalled it back and I was able to get my EDGE connection back, I should have figured that out myself after reading these forums.

As a note, I didn't know that with GSM, I could only send/receive text and calls only (no data). That's why I couldn't send/receive emails or go on the Internet. Thanks for helping, I appreciate it.

Default internet without a data plan

I just upgraded my phone to a curve and was wondering if it was possible to access internet and trade stocks without a data plan. I thought that as long as you have the EDGE network you can access internet.

IF I do get access to internet without a data plan, how much extra will I get charged? Anyone knows?

Thanks a lot

Check their web site for data plans. You absolutely cannot do anything with the web or email without a Blackberry data plan. Having EDGE just means the phone sees the EDGE network.
