Can anyone help me - do you need a GPS to use maps or should you be able to put in an address and get the map.


I have green/black lines and the application will not retrieve anything.

Do I need to invest in a bluetooth gps receiver?

you do not need GPS to get driving directions, but you will need to have a data plan.
GPS will show you your current location and give you turn by turn instructions, whereas getting driving directions will simply tell you a possible route to your destination from a specified location.

Thanks, I understood that you should get maps on an 8300 whether you have a gps or not. I cannot get maps and the screen has green and black lines. When I enter an address or a contact from the address nothing happens. Is there something else you need to set up?

may be a reinstall of the maps software? but yeah, u shudn't need gps to use maps (blackberry maps or google maps). i have a curve without a gps unit and i use google maps without an issue.

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan from your carrier?

And are your TCP settings correct in Options -> Advanced -> TCP
