Default Maps on an 8300 without a GPS Unit

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone help me resolve an issue with an 8300? Maps are installed and the Blackberry web site suggests that you can use maps without a GPS unit although a Bluetooth GPS unit will also give you the position.

My provider is T-Mobile in the UK and they do not seem to know as this unit is new.

On accessing Maps I am getting green diagonal lines.

Inputting an address or a contact does not get any data: I only get the green diagonal lines.

Emails and web pages are working fine so data is accessible. I have also requested a service book update and this has been received.

Are there any other settings that I need to update? Do I need to spend more money on a GPS unit?

Thanks

I believe the 8300 does not have onboard GPS. You will need to have an external GPS and connect to it via blue tooth. I could be wrong with this, but I am pretty sure I heard that before. The 8320 has all the features that the 8300 has with the addition to GPS.

^^ The 8320 does not have GPS. The 8310 does.

OP:

It sounds like bbmaps is just not downloading or rendering the maps correctly. Have you tried an alternate mapping program like google maps? Have you uninstalled and reset the bb, reinstalled bbmaps and reset it again?
