Default Using 83x0 OS on 8300

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
I'm using an unlocked AT&T Curve (8300) on T-Mobile right now using the 02 OS and everything is working ok - I've got the browser, etc. However there are a few bugs and it's kinda frustrating not being able to update. Does anyone know if it's possible to load 83x0 OS on the 8300? I'm asking because T-Mobile is supposed to release the 8320 soon and perhaps this OS would fix some of the issues with an unlocked curve on TMo. Perhaps someone with 8800 experience would know...

Thinking of selling my unlocked curve now while it's still got value and waiting on the 8320 from Tmo if I can't ever update my OS.

Thanks,
Brandin

There's no way to be sure we won't see updates that work with TMo for the 8300. I'm still optimistic that this will be worked out.

Re: putting an 8310 or 8320 OS on the 8300 - this is a big leap. The OS would have to be explicitily written to work on a family of devices, which is generally uncommon, as parts of it are usually customized to specific devices. This is not, however, totally unheard of. In short - it's possible, but unlikely, that this will work.

Thanks for the quick reply - I dont have much experience with RIM, so I wasn't sure if the OS was model (ie 8310) or family (83xx) specific.

I think it's been tried and doesn't work. Yeah, typically, the OS's only work on the same models i.e. 8700 to 8700 but not to 8703 or 8800 to 8800 but not to 8830.

I am just here to confirm that using an OS for a different model does not work at all...

Of course it doesn't work. I already tried this method and was unsuccessful in the process...

It used to work by swapping out the radio files, etc. but rarely works anymore.

What kind of bugs? After applying the calendar patch (finally got my browsers by upgrading my SIM card) I really don't have any "bug" issues.

The calendar issue (just found the patch today) and disappearing personal folders. The build quality on my Curve isn't all that great either - very loose trackball and I think my screen sits a little higher than it should (ridge directly above where the trackball is - on my pearl this is flush).

Anyways, thanks for all the input.

I just read up on the disappearing folders issue. Definitely a bug, and if you rely on custom folders then it's a big one. I don't so I've never encountered it, but I could imagine it to be frustrating enough to be a dealbreaker. Build quallity seems to be hit-or-miss. Mine is tight all around, but a creaky unit would drive me nuts.
