@flash -

Since you've got this new OS loaded, I'd be interested in comparing files between the two versions (your new one and the O2 version). I don't have time to go over all of them, but one in particular seems to relate to WAP provisioning, browsers and T-Zones -- and I suspect that's the one that may give us proper provisioning for T-Mobile browsers (although this is largely guesswork right now).

Anyway: the file name is:

net_rim_bb_sbinjector_lib.cod

...it's all the way down below \Program Files\Common Files\Reseach in Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8300-v4.2.2.67_p2.4.0.29\Java

(note: the branch above "Java" will have your OS number, not the one above of course)

In the O2 release, this file is 529 KB, and it has loads of references to WAP gateways and the like, and is the only file that comes up in a content search for "t-zones", so it's a likely culprit.

If there's a good place to put the file, I can give you a copy of the O2 version. You could try replacing your copy of this file and seeing if you can convince Desktop Manager to copy it to your Curve -- then try a battery pull, delete service books, resend, etc and see if you get the T-Mobile browsers.

Want to try this? If so, I'll need a place where I can upload the file for you.

If you didn't get the upgrade prompt, it never loaded the new file to your Curve. We now know that the DM doesn't look at the COD files to see what's different. My guess is that it only looks at ALX's, and then compares version numbers that they describe. Based on this, it will decide whether a change is pending.

Another thought - and this is going to be a tedious process, but it would get the file on the BB:

1) uninstall the current version of the BB OS from the PC

2) install a different version (e.g., O2), with a different version number, on the PC

3) connect the BB and load the OS into the BB

4) disconnect the BB from the PC

5) save a copy of the SBInjector file from O2 in another directory

6) uninstall the O2 OS from the PC

7) install the latest BB OS onto the PC

8) now, before connecting the BB to the PC, replace the SBInjector file on the PC with the one from the O2 OS that you held off to the side

9) NOW, plug the BB into the PC again and run DM again - it should prompt to install this new OS -- and since the O2 SBInjector file from O2 is part of it now, this should be loaded into the BB as well

Excellent suggestion. Had I been familiar with javaloader I would have suggested this myself! Sure will save time... thanks Nextel User!

Melissa / Flash - are either of you set up to try this? (I still have O2 loaded on my BB, and my schedule this morning is hectic enough so that I don't know if I'll get to sit at the pc long enough to do this myself today)

Are you close to being able to try this? I'd think that, with Javaloader, this should be pretty quick. Can't wait to hear if this works!

arggggh!

So -- you were able to use javaloader to replace the sbinjector file from the recent OS with the one from O2 release...and it made no difference...

*sigh*

I wonder what the real issue is?

Amazing to me that they've managed to keep this so quiet. No leaks at RIM, whereas you can learn about the innards of almost any other software product, generally because someone on the inside leaks a bit of info. RIM is apparently really good at keeping the lid on. Kudos to them -- a bit frustrating for us in this instance!

You swapped the sbinjector file on the PC before reconnecting the Blackberry and pumping the OS into the phone?
